Trump and Zelensky — a deeper look

A little over a hundred years ago, Ukrainians perpetrated numerous antisemitic pogroms.

Afterwards, during World War II, many Ukrainians collaborated with the Nazis against the Jews.

Fast forward to 11 years ago, when Russia invaded the Crimean Peninsula. Ukrainian neo-Nazi militias fought the Russians, thereby gaining a lot of popularity among the Ukrainian people.

At the time, analysts and reporters warned of danger. (Some links are provided below.) They described how, under similar conditions, German Nazis had acquired power before World War II.

Three years ago, Russia again invaded Ukraine. One of Russia’s claims was that they wanted to counter the Ukrainian Nazi threat. Western news outlets wrote that the claim was exaggerated, and that although there were Nazi militias in Ukraine, they had little political clout.

What’s striking is how these reports (downplaying Ukrainian Nazi danger), differed so starkly from reports of a few years previous (that although the Nazi militias had not yet attained ruling power, nevertheless there was a clear and present danger of them doing so.)

Perhaps we can explain the difference as follows: Three years ago, when Western governments decided to give arms and funds to Ukraine, most Western media felt obligated to support their own governments. So they slanted their reports to ridicule Russia and make the West look good.

Last Friday, after Zelensky and Trump engaged in a heated debate before the whole world, many said that Trump was right, and many said that Zelensky was right.

Sometimes, when there are strong differences of opinion, it can be helpful to look back, to try to see how we reached this point; what were the fundamental causes.

When a country which is steeped in a history of vicious antisemitism, popularizes neo-Nazi militias, it’s a clear warning sign that something is dangerously wrong.

Everything happens by Divine providence. Perhaps this is another open miracle, that G-d is protecting His people, and indeed the civilized world, by eliminating a viable Nazi threat.

Perhaps we need to be thankful for the recent Oval Office spat.

Examining the Threat of the Azov Movement in Ukraine

There’s One Far-Right Movement That Hates the Kremlin

There is also an article from the Guardian from about ten years ago. I couldn’t get the link to work. But you can access it by typing the following in Google search: Azov fighters are Ukraine’s greatest weapon and may be its greatest threat

May we soon see world peace.
