Ben G. Yacobi

Waiting for the Flame

Can humanity be saved
when the Creator
who spoke to Moses from the flame
has fallen silent?

Can childhood innocence be saved
when wonder slowly learns to fear,
and vigilance replaces play,
as a child
learns first where the shelter is
and watches the sky
instead of looking at it?

We built temples.
We drafted creeds.
We prayed.

It was not enough.

Still we remain,
faces turned toward the dark,
waiting for the flame
to speak again.
