Warnings

In life, we don’t really get warnings.

No heads up; for the good stuff, or the bad.

Surely, one can look back with a microscope or a fine-tooth comb, and see clear warnings of things to come.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

The thing is, that last week, one of our greatest enemies, Pharaoh gets some warnings.

In Exodus 7:15-18 for dam, the first plague of blood, the following is written as the warning that they get:

Laych el Pharoah ba’boker heenay yotzay ha’my-ma v’nitzavta likrato al sifat ha’ye’or v’ha’mateh asher nehefach l’nachash tikach b’yadecha v’amarta eilav HaShem elokei ha’ivrim shilachani aylecha laymor shalach et ami vaya’avduni ba’midbar v’hinei lo shamata ad ko ko amar HaShem b’zot taydah ki ani HaShem hinay anochi makeh ba’mateh asher b’yadi al ha’mayim asher ba’yeor v’nehefchu l’dam v’ha’daga asher ba’ye’or tamut u’va’ash ha’ye’or v’nilu Mitzrayim lishtot mayim min ha’ye’or” (Exodus:7:15-18)

Go to Pharoah in the morning. Behold, he goes out to the water, and you shall station yourself to meet him by the River bank, and the staff that turned into a serpent you shall take in your hand. And you shall say to him, ‘HaShem, God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, ‘Send out My people that they may serve Me in the wilderness;’ and behold you have not listened until now. So says HaShem, ‘By this you shall know that I am HaShem.’ Behold, with the staff in my hand, I will strike the waters that are in the river and they will turn into blood. And the fish in the river will die and the River will reek, and the Egyptians will try in vain to drink water from the River.

Pharaoh is forewarned.

He has the ability to evade the holy Nile River’s bloodying.

Aside from the fact that the Nile River was seen as a god itself by the Egyptian people, there were two other gods associated with the Nile River that were very important to the Egyptians: Sobek and Hapy.

Sobek was their god of the Nile River, often associated with fertility, protection and strength. It’s hieroglyphic was often depicted with the head of a crocodile and the body of a human, and was believed to protect people from danger such as crocodile attacks and he was often worshiped in Temple rock he didn’t hear the Nile river. Egyptian legend enumerated that Sobek controlled the ebb and flow of the Nile river, whether it would flood or recede as needed.

How infinitely ironic then, that the Egyptians were commanded by Pharaoh to throw the Jewish baby boys into the River that they believed was associated with fertility and protection.
Pharaoh does not learn his lesson.
The other god of the Nile river, Hapy was thought to control the Nile River’s inundation – this is when the River floods its banks which allowed crops to grow. He was hieroglyphically portrayed as a man with a large belly, representing fertility (new life) and good food. Hapy was worshipped throughout Egypt, his influence could be felt in every aspect of life that depended on the Nile river.
Later, in Exodus 7:26-8:4 for tzfardeyah, the plague of frogs, they come out of the Nile River.
Actually, it is one large frog that comes out of the river, and the anger that Pharaoh displays at the mere existence of this frog, only causes more frogs to come out of it when the one frog is hit.
The frogs,  which only multiply because of his own anger and frustration, causing Pharaoh to be so disturbed, that he actually is about to let them go on their track to worship HaShem in the desert.
Pharaoh is forewarned, and he still gets angry… And his anger only multiplies his problem.
I wish I could get forewarned about bad things that would happen to me… But that’s not how this works.
I have emunah, faith that everything is being orchestrated by HaShem to work out the way that it is supposed to.
What if, I am supposed to be in this motorized wheelchair to teach the Jewish community something?
What if that thing is chesed, caring for others?
What if that thing is accessibility?
What if it is supposed to put into light for people that everybody has something…  Even Moshe…

Our problem is seen.

It was given to us by HaShem, though for what reason I have no idea.

Nobody had a warning.

We are trying to deal the best that we can.
