Water

Soft

      as it flows

                  back and forth

Water invigorates

         quenches thirst

                helps things grow

Torah

      is compared

                   to water

Torah

     like water

           gives life

When the Almighty created the world, he divided the supernal waters from the waters below.

Water, Chassidus explains, goes from a high place down to a lower place.

Similarly Torah came down to us, from a very high place (waters above) to our physical world (waters below).

It’s G-d’s wisdom, distilled so that we can absorb it.

And it gives us life.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe suggested that once a week, (perhaps every Wednesday), for fifteen minutes, it’s good to open a Chumash (one of the five books of Torah), and see what the Torah says.
