Wendy Sherman Under Sec’y State under Biden talks about Genocide
An article by Jacob Magid in The Times of Israel says:
Wendy Sherman, who served as deputy secretary of state for much of former US president Joe Biden’s administration, has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being responsible for the perpetration of a genocide in Gaza.
Speaking to Bloomberg’s “The Mishal Husain Show” last week, Sherman said, “I think that it is critical that Israel remain an ally of the United States, and that we protect the right of a Jewish state.”
“But I also believe that the prime minister has led us down a road — and we have been part of it that has, in essence — created a genocide in Gaza that has destabilized the Middle East,” Sherman added.
****This article (above)was posted today in The Times of Israel (Jacob Magid) and I feel it necessary to add a few words to a confused issue; people aren’t confusedp about their pity for suffering but what if terms and words are unclear.
In 1937 when fascist Germany the ally of Frano bombed Guernica Spain and its defenceless population–- the line between soldiers in uniform and civilian combatance was eraced forever..the famous mural of Picasso shocked the world with its inhumanity – the first time defencely people were bombed and military power reduced a whole nation to one level, e.g., the whole nation against their foe; since then we’ve had Hiroshima Nagasaki Berlin, Vietnam and many more; all people are combatants but the nation can surrender or make agreements to end the fighting. etc/.
As far as I know there’s been no attempt to change the acceptance of ‘war’ as a situation in which both sides aim to annhilate the other completely, e.g., it’s not like boxing with set number of rounds that can stop the participants’ fighting – and this unfortunately is where we find ourselves today:Bibi is continuing with war and the Gazans aren’t surrendering, hence Wendy Sherman asks if this is Genocide, because is there an end?.
In addition, we all see that battle blood and suffering does not cower anybody anymore, the dependencies interlockings our lifelines in trade, election-politics, oil, etc are so balanced and interwoven in one another that our ‘diplomats’ such as Wendy Sherman don’t know what to do. But as I see things: in war there are two armies: in genocide such as the armenian genocide there was one army – the Turks and as for the Holocaust – again one army- the Jews and others were prisoners in Nazi annihilation camps; is that the situation in Gaza?
Gaza attacked Israel October 7- Isreal retaliated -two peoples are at war; and the term Genocide as being used today I believe implies the Gazans are not at war, and that even today they’ve no alternative but to remain fixed and loyal to Hamas
I assume the Gazans have TV computer cell phone they can talk to cousins in America Al Gazeera and certainly Abu Abbas; in other words can they be conceived as being ‘out of it’? that they lived in this tiny space and knew it not at all. And has one Gazan so far said,’ in retrospect October 7th shouldn’t have been, afterall if you attack there are reprisals and if it’s the IDF they’re a strong reprisal. Further, Are we to believe the Gazans had and have no responsibility for their situation…they’re just vegetables with no will of their own and without loyalties and identity to fight for? The resistance to surrender is a powerful weapon, the war continues, the onions have no choice.
