What Does Chosen Mean?

As a gentile, I believe the tribes of Israel were chosen by God. There is no replacement for the Jewish people of today by anyone. They remain just as chosen as their ancestors. God never put an expiration date or exception to the tribes being chosen.

What, exactly, does it mean to be chosen?

I have heard and read about Jewish people calling themselves chosen by God, but never had it made clear about what it means. I had to do a lot of research to find out.

Rabbi Nissan D. Dubov, director of Chabad Lubavitch in Wimbledon, UK., summed it best at Chabad:

“In our association with the outside world every one of us – man or woman – must fulfil priestly functions. The juxtaposition of a “kingdom of priests” and “a holy nation” indicates that through being holy and dedicated to Torah and mitzvot in our private lives we can be successful ambassadors to the outside world. Our impact on the outside world is intrinsically related to our dedication to Torah and mitzvot.”

To be chosen by God means every Jewish person in the world is meant to use whatever talents God has given them to teach gentiles how to live an ethical life. And explain the spiritual depths that comes from the Noahide Laws.

The Jewish people are supposed to be living examples of Torah and have outreach to gentiles.

Why did it take a lot of research to find out? Because there is a lack of acting out what it means to be chosen. Jewish people are supposed to reach out to gentiles, not the other way around.

Chabad has great outreach to other Jewish people, but very little in the way of gentile outreach. How can they teach gentiles unless they reach out to gentiles and teach?

There are Jewish people who use their gifts in less than Godly ways. These too fall short of what God commanded of the Jewish people. You are to be living examples of Torah, not defilers of God’s laws.

You teach the world the wrong lessens. You were chosen by God. Live like it.

God chose the tribes to be His messengers to the world. You were chosen to be a light unto all nations.

God never said to be His chosen when it is easy or convenient. God chose you to always be His light unto the world.

When you speak to gentiles, do you do so as God’s light? Do you act in your role as teacher? Are you helping others live that ethical life God has chosen you to do?

If you fall short, let God guide you in everything you do. Remember what you are called to do by God.

To be chosen is a blessing. Start living like it is.

Every Jewish person reading this can be a light unto nations. Reach out and teach the world.

In this wondrous age of instantaneous communication, you have the means to reach it without the need to travel.

Live as God intended you to live. As God’s chosen ambassadors to bring God’s light to the world. Reach out and be the teachers you were meant to be.
