What is Democracy?

The left has it all backward. Protest signs for Democracy actually support the coalition. Till this new legislation was passed judges were not appointed in a Democratic way—now they will be.

The new law “elevates the influence of the political echelon in choosing judges,” says David Horovitz of the TOI. That’s Democracy, David! Politicians are picked by the voting public—that’s the definition of Democracy. Until now, judges have just appointed their successors from their own ranks. That’s not Democracy!

Thus the recipe and makeup of the future justice committee will allow the electorate, albeit indirectly, to choose who sits on the high court.

A positive side effect of the new law will allow the Knesset to be a true legislative body and not beholden to or vetoed by the Supreme Court.

David Horovitz, you stated it correctly when you said “…in a Democracy, the people are sovereign.
