What is the Sovereign State of Palestine?

77 years ago, the United Nations voted to recognize the independent State of Israel, an event that was 2,000 years in the making. The prior independent State of Israel was destroyed by the Romans after the Bar Kokhba Rebellion in the year 125.

There were a few big differences between the recognition of the independent State of Israel 77 years ago and the recognition of the sovereign state of Palestine today.  In 1948, the last of Europe’s Jews, those in central and eastern Europe, had been gassed and murdered by the fascist regime in Germany. The remaining Jews on the continent, some of whom fought for Stalin when they were liberated from the Germans, were sent to Siberia. As a result of earlier inquisitions and crusades, all the Jews in western Europe, France, England, and Spain had been murdered and chased off the continent 1,000 years earlier. Europe was indeed Judenrein.

Notwithstanding how few Jews were left in the world, those in the Middle East did declare their independence against all odds. The 1948 recognition of the State of Israel was accompanied by an arms embargo. While President Truman, leading the United States, was the first country officially to recognize the independent State of Israel, the recognition was hollow.

Prior to Israel’s declaration of independence in May of 1948, the British, the colonial rulers of the Middle East since the defeat of the Muslim Ottoman Empire in World War I, turned over all of their arms to the Arabs. Those Arab nations had pledged the destruction of the Jews in Israel and the Middle East. The Arabs had made a pact with Adolf Hitler during World War II to murder all the Jews in the Middle East, as had occurred in Europe.

Israel fought the 1948 war with obsolete weapons, some smuggled from Eastern Europe, some from France, and a few even got through the United States Blockade.

The 1948 declaration of Israel’s independence, and UN recognition, was followed by the invasion of 5 Arab nations. All of the Arabs in the Middle East rejected the UN partition plan to carve up Jewish Palestine between Arab and Jew. In that terrible 1948 war, Israel lost almost 50% of its territory to Jordan. Jordan occupied Jewish Palestine from the Jordan River almost to the Mediterranean, within 6 miles of the Mediterranean at its narrowest point. When the Jordanians conquered the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem, they murdered every Jew in the city and made sure that it was inaccessible to Jews until 1967.  Jewish graves were desecrated and headstones were used as urinals.

In the 1948 Arab campaign against Israel, Egypt illegally occupied Gaza. Syria seized the northern Golan Heights, so that it could rain artillery fired down on the collective Jewish farms in the Galilee. Nevertheless, Israel managed to hang on through sheer spirit, will, and belief in divine providence.

The Arabs, unhappy that that had not completely destroyed Israel, and well aware of what had happened to the Jews of Europe in the prior thousand years, planned the 1967 destruction of the remaining State of Israel.  Things did not turn out as the enemies of Israel had planned. Instead, Israel was ready for the aggression of its enemies. Israel liberated the West Bank of the Jordan River, Gaza, and the Golan Heights. Israel still was not restored to its ancient homeland, which included modern Jordan.

The League of Nations, with the United States’ support even though the United States was not a member of the League of Nations, had entered into a treaty which would have provided to the Jewish people its true homeland. That land included modern Jordan, Gaza, and the area up to and including part of modern Lebanon and Syria. In the years that followed, as antisemitism rose throughout Europe, the promise of a national homeland was chipped away. Britain double crossed the Middle Eastern Jews and gave Jordan to the Hashemite family in return for promises of oil. By the time of the post-World War II partition plan, Israel was a fraction of the land which comprised the Jewish national homeland.

In the years since 1967, the 500 million Arabs in 27 nations, realizing that they could not militarily defeat the Jews, engaged in a campaign of terrorism, mostly against civilians. Thousands of Jews died starting in early 1970s through the present time.  Civilians were always a target. Those civilians might have been on buses, in cafes, or at music festivals. The concept behind terror is to ensure that civilians are unwilling to live in the land under any circumstances.

The campaign of terror started by Yasser Arafat was unsuccessful militarily but politically, he managed to garner the support of the western world. The Oslo Accords entered into in 1993, were brokered by President Bill Clinton. On the stage stood the terrorist leader, Yasser Arafat, and Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin.  They agreed to create the Palestinian Authority. In the early 2000, Israel gave Gaza to the Arabs to rule. The Arab terrorists, bent on the destruction of Israel, were given the opportunity to rule themselves and have a state. What did they do with it?

Arafat died and ceded leadership to the present dictator on the West Bank of the Jordan River, Mahmoud Abbas. That dictator has promised elections, but they will never occur while he is alive, unless he can control them. His successors will be terrorists. Hamas, a worldwide international terrorist organization, actually won the election in Gaza, tossing out of power the corrupt Palestinian Authority. The “governments,” if they can be called that, on both the West Bank and Gaza have professed, without equivocation, their agenda to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews.  They pay terrorists and terrorists’ families to attack civilian targets within Israel.  The United States has acted, legislatively, to provide a disincentive to the Pay for Slay program run by the Middle Eastern Arab terrorist regimes.

What is the conclusion?  The terrorists who have control and run the West Bank and Gaza are apparently going to be recognized by the great democracies of Western Europe, and others, as a Sovereign Nation. Does that make any sense?

Some of the western leaders claim that the terrorists must suddenly transform themselves into democratic government, much like the socialist regimes recognizing the Sovereign State of Palestine. That will not happen, of course. The west knows that. The terrorists must disavow their killing rampage and philosophy.  That will not happen.

The reality is that the recognition of a Palestinian State, led by Europeans, is based upon hatred for Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and a desperate need for the energy that comes from oil. While the terrorist regimes do not themselves control any oil, they are bought, paid for, and financed by the Arab wealthy nations in the Middle East. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and others have long provided the money that terrorist regimes need to purchase and utilize weapons of destruction.

The Western European regimes seeking to recognize a Palestinian State themselves are teetering on the brink of collapse. The left-wing socialist embrace of terrorist states will not bring peace but will only encourage more violence in the Middle East.

In our own nation, in speaking of the late Charlie Kirk, Alexandra Cortez, who sits in the United States Congress, referred to him as a Christofascist. Make no mistake about it, the Arab Middle East hates Christians and Christianity, on a philosophical level, even more than they hate the Jews. They hate the Jews physical presence in the Middle East, but they hate the Christians for what they believe. Many people do not realize that important concept and distinction.

The world will not be better off for the efforts to carve Israel into a smaller and less defensible nation than it is already. Peace and stability in the Middle East are in the interest of the United States and that means a strong defensible State of Israel.
