What Went Wrong With the Global Moral Compass?

In October of last year, news broke out with a shocking headline: “Israeli airstrike kills 500 in Gaza hospital.” Within minutes, the world erupted in outrage. Governments condemned Israel, protests filled the streets from London to Jakarta, and social media exploded with accusations. But within hours, yes, hours, it became clear that this tragedy was not caused by Israel. It was a misfired rocket from a Palestinian faction in Gaza. No 500 casualties. No Israeli involvement. Just another deadly consequence of Hamas’ reckless war strategy and propaganda machine.

But the retractions? The apologies? They never came.

This is just one of many examples where misinformation about Israel spreads like wildfire, burning into the collective consciousness long after the truth is uncovered. The damage is done. And each time, the world seems less interested in facts and more in narratives that demonize the only democracy in the Middle East.

The Price of Misinformation

Take the story about IDF soldiers “randomly shooting at civilians during aid deliveries.” The headlines were horrific, the imagery gut-wrenching. But what was conveniently left out by many media outlets was that these incidents often occurred in combat zones where Hamas had embedded itself within civilian areas again using their own people as human shields. Verified reports and footage later showed that many of these accusations were false or grossly misrepresented. Yet, the damage lingers, especially in European countries like the Netherlands, where these headlines are aired without skepticism, without context, and worst of all without correction.

Or consider the language used in daily reports. “Israeli killed in stabbing incident” is how many Dutch media outlets phrase what is actually a terrorist attack. Why is it so difficult to call a murderer a terrorist when the victim is Israeli? Why the double standard?

For those of us who care about truth and about Israel, the pain is real. It feels like the global moral compass has shattered. If you stand with Israel today, you risk being labeled an extremist. Worse, if you’re attacked for your beliefs, people look the other way. The truth has become inconvenient, and lies have become weapons.

The Betrayal From Within

But perhaps the most painful betrayal comes from within. More and more Jewish voices are being platformed who repeat anti-Israel narratives. Even respected publications like The Times of Israel give space to op-eds that sound like they were written by Israel’s enemies. It’s one thing to face global misinformation. It’s another to see your own people help amplify it.

I’ve stopped expecting better from humanity. It’s a low bar, and sadly, I’m rarely disappointed. But I still hold onto hope, not because of the masses, but because of individuals.

A Hero’s Mission

One of those individuals is a dear friend of mine. A true Israeli hero. Former intelligence. Arabic-speaking. Deeply knowledgeable. A man who has lived through Israel’s battles and is now dedicating his life to helping Europe prepare for the cultural and ideological shifts it is experiencing. He wants to offer courses to European police, army, and intelligence units, to help them understand Arabic culture, Islamist ideology, and the security threats Europe is only beginning to wake up to.

It’s not just about language. It’s about survival.

But Europe, in its arrogance, believes it already knows. I’ve spent months trying to find people in high places willing to listen, but doors stay closed. Some pretend to care. Some ask for outrageous sums of money before lifting a finger. Even those who claim to love Israel often act out of self-interest. One such man even spoke at our rally in Amsterdam last April, Time to Stand Up for Israel. A well-spoken Israeli who admired my friend… until he saw dollar signs instead of duty.

What Happened to Us?

So I ask: Why are people becoming this way? Why is greed more powerful than patriotism? Why does social media amplify hatred and lies, while facts are drowned in silence?

We used to believe that light would overcome darkness. That truth would win. But today, the global conscience is rotting. People no longer seek facts, they seek feelings. They repost, retweet, and reframe lies to fit their worldview. And Israel, the eternal scapegoat, bears the brunt.

But I won’t give up. My friend won’t give up. The truth still matters, even if only a few of us are left to tell it.

So if you are one of the few, stand up. Speak out. Defend what is right, even when it’s hard. Because the moment we stop, the lies win. And we cannot afford that.

Not for Israel.
Not for Europe.
Not for humanity.

Everyone is so untrue

About the Author
CEO of Time to Stand Up for Israel, a nonprofit organization with a powerful mission: to support Israel and amplify its voice around the world. With over 200,000 followers across various social media platforms, our community is united by a shared love for Israel and a deep commitment to her future. My journey as an advocate for Israel began early. When I was 11 years old, my father was deployed to the Middle East through his work with UNTSO. I had the unique experience of living in both Syria and Israel, and from a young age, I witnessed firsthand the contrast in cultures and realities. That experience shaped me profoundly. Returning to the Netherlands, I quickly became aware of the growing wave of anti-Israel sentiment — and I knew I had to speak out. Ever since, I’ve been a fierce and unapologetic supporter of Israel. I’m not religious, but my belief is clear and unwavering: Israel has the right to exist, and Israel has the duty to defend herself. My passion is rooted in truth, love, and justice. I’m a true Zionist at heart. From my first breath to my last, I will stand up for Israel.
