What would you do in Israel?

“What would you do in Israel ?”

This question was recently posed to me by an interested friend when I said that I was coming back to Israel for my 16th visit !

I imagine that many people view visits to Israel as life threatening events that are at best survived.

“Why visit the museums, the Kotel and my favourite bookshops and museums of course was my reply.”

Though I have never been to Florida I have often imagined what I would do to pass the time beyond laying in a deck chair by the pool, visiting the outlet malls and playing golf or tennis.

After my first visit to Israel some 12 years ago one of my daughters was amazed upon looking at photographs of the Malcha Mall exclaimed ” Do they have shopping malls there ? ”

Visions of North Americans who imagined that Israel consisted of sand dunes and camels popped into my mind !

Since my recent visit to Israel this past November I often think of how first time visitors must treasure the rush of a visit to Jerusalem and the many sites it has to offer.

“How not to become jaded?  I often look upon friends who are “devout Jews and have yet to visit to visit Israel and wonder, Why me?”
