What’s It Gonna Take?
This is my fourth time going through an operation in Gaza.
I live with my wife and three kids in the Negev city of Beersheba.
To the 200,000 some residents of my town these Gaza operations are quickly becoming routine. We went through this in 2006, 2008, again in 2012 and now yet once more in 2014.
Throughout these four “wars” or operations or whatever you want to call them, my family and I have had to run for shelter at home, at work, while out on errands, in the car, and at friends and families houses over 300 times.
We’ve lived to tell about the times our city was attacked over and over by Hamas with over 1,000 rockets.
My question to you and anyone else who cares about Israel that will listen is this:
What is it going to take for us to stop the rocket attacks from Gaza onto the civilians of Israel?
Let me say that personally I do not think it’s a matter of if we can stop Hamas and the rocket fire since The IDF is one of the strongest militaries in the world. I think it’s more a matter of when we’ve had enough.
This is the first time around that Hamas has really targeted all of Israel. Yes even the sleepy suburbs of the normally quiet city of Modi’in was shot at. At one point I thought Hamas must like the quiet suburban lifestyle since Modi’in only got it’s first rocket in 2014.
This is the very first time that 90% of Israel has been in Hamas rocket range.
One answer to my question is therefore that it’ll take a few more times like this before the whole country realizes what us Negev dwellers realized long ago.
Then, in a moment of horror I thought, what if it’s going to take Israel going through it’s own 9.11 type event before we wake up to the reality that Hamas is not going away and they will keep firing rockets at us until we put them out of their misery once and for all.
Please G-d let us and our leaders have the foresight to realize what we must stop Hamas so that such a terrible thing will never happen in Israel.
My friends and family ask me what it’s like to live through rocket fire. I say, it was scary at first and it still is to some extent. But now, after the 300 some times of hearing the siren and booms overhead, for better or worse, I’m kinda used to it.

Being used to living under rocket attack is something no one should ever need to feel comfortable with.
When are we finally going to decide enough is enough and that Hamas must go?
What’s it gonna take?
