Instantaneously, I became very happy with the news that US President Biden, a true friend of the Jewish people, had chosen Deborah Lipstadt as his ambassador to Combat and Monitor Antisemitism. More important than her great expertise is that when she talks, the world listens. She’s not a book full of truths that sits on a shelf; she’s a widely respected activist.
With her choice, Biden shows not just to take himself seriously, but also to include others in his age bracket. Older people always have much to give. But, it’s high time the disrespect for the elderly so prominent in the West just goes. If only, because we’re all getting older and harder to overlook.
In a field of Jewish leaders dominated by men, it’s always refreshing to have another women take a position of influence. Not only will she have worked harder than her male colleagues to qualify; she must have shown wisdom and balance and broad intelligence that men can only dream of.
As a true authority, she’s speaks truth to power on both sides of the aisle.
Of course, overblown expectations will be heaped on her as if she could singlehandedly switch off Antisemitism and make the whole world safe for Jews in no time. But, no doubt, she knows her true power. To lead and align a diverse group of influencers to jointly make this world safer for all.
Rising national and Internet Antisemitism has again found its match.
I bless her that she’ll be able to go where no man went before. To help the West become less pedantic vis-à-vis the Jews, and especially Israel. Those outsiders claiming to know best what the Jewish State should and should not do, that classical imperialist position, is way past its expiration date. And that she can help the US taking Israel seriously when it says that a nuclear genocidal Iran is unacceptable and a preemptive strike is a must.
