When Hatred Masquerades as Justice: Antisemitism in the Age of Anti-Zionism

Since the horrific Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023, the world has not only witnessed a surge in violence against Israel, but also an unprecedented rise in hatred against Jews worldwide. In a grim and disturbing twist of history, it has once again become “legitimate” in the eyes of many to be openly antisemitic, except this time the hatred often hides behind the convenient mask of “anti-Zionism.” The slogans may have changed, the hashtags may look fashionable, but the ancient venom remains the same. Today, people proudly announce that they are “anti-Zionist,” yet their words, actions, and violence reveal that they are, in truth, antisemitic.

The world must recognize what is happening: this is not simply a political debate about borders or governments. It is an old hatred dressed up in modern clothes. And if there is one lesson from history, it is this: when antisemitism is allowed to flourish, society as a whole pays the price.

A Worldwide Surge in Antisemitism After October 7

The scale of antisemitic incidents after October 7 shocked even those who had long warned about its rise. In the United States, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) recorded more than 9,000 antisemitic incidents in 2024 alone, the highest number in its history. This included assaults, threats, vandalism of synagogues, Jewish schools, and cemeteries, as well as a tidal wave of online harassment.

In the United Kingdom, the Community Security Trust (CST) documented 3,528 antisemitic incidents in 2024, the second-highest annual total ever recorded. Jewish students were harassed on campus, demonstrators called for violence on the streets of London, and Jewish neighborhoods were plastered with threatening graffiti.

Across Europe, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) found a sharp rise in harassment, intimidation, and fear among Jewish communities. France, Germany, and Belgium all reported record incidents. Synagogues were attacked, Holocaust memorials defaced, and Jewish families threatened.

The picture is clear: October 7 unleashed not only Hamas’ barbarity on Israeli soil, but also a global permission slip for Jew-hatred. The chants of “From the river to the sea” at rallies were not calls for peace or coexistence, but for the destruction of Israel, the one Jewish state in the world.

From “Antisemitism” to “Anti-Zionism”: The Old Hatred in a New Costume

What makes this surge especially insidious is how it is being justified. People no longer feel comfortable saying outright, “I hate Jews.” Instead, they shout, “I hate Zionists.” They claim they are only opposing Israeli policy, yet the “policies” they oppose include Israel’s very right to exist.

This sleight of hand has made antisemitism appear “cool” and “popular” in progressive circles, universities, activist movements, and even mainstream politics. You can be cheered for tearing down posters of kidnapped Israeli children. You can be applauded for disrupting Jewish events. You can be praised for waving the flag of Hamas or glorifying “martyrs” who target civilians.

But make no mistake: this is antisemitism, plain and simple. If you single out the world’s only Jewish state for elimination, while ignoring the mass crimes of dictatorships and terror regimes, you are not a champion of justice but you are perpetuating the oldest hatred in human history.

As the saying goes: when you replace the word “Zionist” with “Jew,” the true meaning is exposed.

Why the World Needs Israel

The irony is that the very people who scream “Down with Israel!” are often living in comfort, safety, and health thanks to Israeli innovation. Israel is not only a democratic outpost in a region dominated by tyranny, but also a hub of science, medicine, and technology that benefits the entire world.

From medical devices that save lives, to cyber-security that protects global communications, to water technology that sustains agriculture in dry regions, Israel contributes far beyond its size. Israeli researchers are at the forefront of cancer treatments, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and humanitarian aid.

This world needs Israel, not only for the Jewish people, who deserve a safe homeland after millennia of persecution, but for humanity as a whole. A world without Israel would not only be morally diminished, it would be materially poorer, less secure, and less innovative.

Civilization Versus Savagery

The events of October 7 brought into sharp relief a choice that the world must face. On that day, Hamas terrorists slaughtered, raped, mutilated, and kidnapped civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. It was barbarism in its purest form. The images are etched forever into the memory of all who witnessed them.

And yet, in the days that followed, crowds around the world took to the streets, not to condemn the atrocities, but to celebrate them. They waved flags, danced, and justified the slaughter as “resistance.” This is the moral corruption of our age: when the civilized are blamed, and the savages are excused.

Let us be clear: if you have to choose between the civilization represented by Israel and the savagery represented by Hamas and its supporters, the choice is simple. Choose civilization. Stand with Israel.

The Lies and the Truth

Why do so many fall for the lies? Because lies are easy, seductive, and emotionally charged. It is easy to chant slogans, to paint Israel as the eternal villain, to imagine a simple story of oppressor and oppressed. It is harder to look at the facts: that Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005; that Hamas turned it into a fortress of terror; that Israel has repeatedly sought peace, only to be met with violence.

The truth is not complicated: Israel wants to live in peace, while its enemies glorify death. Israel builds schools and hospitals, while Hamas builds tunnels and rockets. Israel protects its civilians, while Hamas hides behind theirs.

To stand with Israel is to stand with truth, progress, and human dignity. To stand with “Palestine,” as defined by Hamas and its apologists, is to stand with lies, deceit, and violence.

A Call to Courage

History will judge our generation by how we respond to this moment. Will we allow antisemitism to flourish under the disguise of anti-Zionism? Will we applaud those who glorify terror while shaming those who defend democracy? Or will we have the courage to call hatred by its name, to reject barbarism, and to defend the values of civilization?

Courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to stand for what is right despite fear. Today, standing for Israel is the true test of courage. It means resisting the fashionable lies, the loud mobs, and the easy slogans. It means remembering that justice, truth, and freedom are not always popular, but they are always right.

Choose the Civilized Path

Since October 7, antisemitism has returned to the public square, dressed up as anti-Zionism and celebrated as activism. But we must not be fooled. Hatred is hatred, whether it marches under the swastika or waves the flag of Hamas.

The difference today is that many consider it “cool” to hate Jews. Yet history shows us where this road leads: destruction, darkness, and moral decay.

The world needs Israel; for its people, for its innovations, and for the example it sets as a beacon of democracy in a hostile region. If you stand for truth and progress, you stand with Israel. If you stand for lies, deceit, and violence, you stand with Hamas and its enablers.

The choice is stark, but it is also simple. When you have to choose between savages and civilized men, choose the civilized. Stand with Israel.

About the Author
CEO of Time to Stand Up for Israel, a nonprofit organization with a powerful mission: to support Israel and amplify its voice around the world. With over 200,000 followers across various social media platforms, our community is united by a shared love for Israel and a deep commitment to her future. My journey as an advocate for Israel began early. When I was 11 years old, my father was deployed to the Middle East through his work with UNTSO. I had the unique experience of living in both Syria and Israel, and from a young age, I witnessed firsthand the contrast in cultures and realities. That experience shaped me profoundly. Returning to the Netherlands, I quickly became aware of the growing wave of anti-Israel sentiment — and I knew I had to speak out. Ever since, I’ve been a fierce and unapologetic supporter of Israel. I’m not religious, but my belief is clear and unwavering: Israel has the right to exist, and Israel has the duty to defend herself. My passion is rooted in truth, love, and justice. I’m a true Zionist at heart. From my first breath to my last, I will stand up for Israel.
