When non-Jews help Jews

I posted yesterday about a few Jews saving the day.

I included Elise Stefanik.

And then I read a comment on the post, that she’s not Jewish.

A great supporter, but not Jewish.

So I thought, oy! Now what?

And then I thought about it, and perhaps everything’s ok.

Maybe even better.

Because when non-Jews defend Jews, and (as I wrote in the post) society stands up to injustice and rectifies things, then we are seeing a society that is worthy and ready to receive and accept the Almighty’s kingship.

The verse that I quoted, (the last verse in Obadiah), talks about “saviours rising on the mountain of Zion.” It doesn’t say that those saviours need to be Jewish.

(Interestingly, although numerous commentaries like Rashi, Eben Ezra, and Redak say that ‘saviours’ here refers to Moshiach and/or other Jewish personalities such as  the seven shepherds etc; nevertheless Abrabanel writes that it refers to non-Jews. Perhaps we can reconcile all these views, by using an explanation in Chassidus regarding seven shepherds etc. Namely, that the influence emanating from certain Jewish leaders inspires and motivates others to be saviours.)

G-d has many messengers. They are championing ideals of justice and morality as taught from Zion; ideals that Jews throughout the centuries have shared, as a light to the nations.

Including the seven Noahide laws which G-d told Moses, at Mount Sinai, to tell all nations.

Indeed, there will come a time when the entire world will acknowledge G-d’s presence. “And the world will be filled with awareness of G-d, just as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11; 9)

A time when the whole earth will be peaceful.

Perhaps what we are seeing now, the many miracles that G-d is doing to protect His people, and the many efforts on the part of non-Jews to defend values of true morality, is a sign that Redemption with Moshiach is close.

May it happen very soon.
