Will Gaza be America’s 51st State?
The February 4th, 2025 U.S. Press Conference of President Donald Trump with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu has taken the world by storm. It reminds me of a song that we Jews have enjoyed singing on Passover /Pesach for generations. It is called “Dayenu.” Roughly translated it means…”It would have been enough for us.” You will understand the reference as you read on.
President Trump invited Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister to be the first world leader to visit the white house during his 2nd term in office. Dayenu.
President Trump put pressure on Hamas to begin returning the hostages they abducted on October 7th, 2023. Dayenu.
President Trump released the two-thousand-ton bombs that Israel was waiting to receive, but was denied by the Biden administration. Dayenu.
President Trump took the USA out of the United Nations Human Rights Council which never cared about Jewish or Israe human rights. Dayenu.
President Trump ended support of UNWRA which supported Hamas, hid weapons and terrorists in their facilities and schools in Gaza. Dayenu.
President Trump approved over a billion dollars in further arms deliveries to Israel. Dayenu.
President Trump announced that students on foreign visas who demonstrated in favor of the barbaric atrocities of Hamas on October 7th, have broken their agreement with the US government, and must be deported. Dayenu.
President Trump advised U.S. Universities that antisemitism on their campuses will not be tolerated and their Federal Funding will be removed if they do not aggressively pursue that goal. Dayenu.
President Trump took off the unmerited sanctions on Israeli citizens in Judea and Samaria. Dayenu.
President Trump dismantled the corrupt USAID organization which has funded terrorists around the globe surreptitiously through ridiculous payments of millions of dollars to support absurd projects such as a Disney movie abroad or to purportedly “purchase condoms” for terrorists. Dayenu.
But the “coup de gras”… the mortal thrust which “Trumps” them all, is the announcement that he wants the United States to take over Gaza. To enter…remove all the remaining weapons and land mines…to rebuild it from the ground up… in America’s image. It is a stroke of absolute genius. He is offering to relocate the Gazans to multiple nations around the world …or to one location if they prefer and if such a location can be arranged. The USA has the budget to pay each of the Gaza families more money than they have ever had at one time… to inspire their cooperation. It is a “deal” of the century… a bargain in the world of real estate. Gaza, a sea front land… can become home to hotels, spas, resorts, casinos, ….. and more importantly – American military bases and storage facilities which will give it dominance over the entire Middle East. This is how peace in the Middle East will be achieved. Not by stroking the tail of a tiger…but by showing strength and creating opportunities which benefit both the United States and the region as a whole.
From Israel’s perspective, there is nothing but positive potential in this project. Remember please that Gaza reaches down to a border with Egypt in Sinai. Egypt has been arming the Sinai and preparing for war… which we in Israel are just now beginning to comprehend. It is reported that large battalions of tanks have moved into the Sinai…that fuel storage and facilities critical to a war footing have been built and prepared as well. Having the United States on Egypt’s doorstep would not only thwart their efforts, but would threaten them greatly. It is not too late for Egypt to step back from what appears to be an aggressive militaristic future. It has been suggested that the Egyptian buildup is intended to help them move into Gaza and take it as their own. It does seem to me, that they were offered Gaza in the past and declined to accept it… so if that is their goal, it could have been accomplished in a totally different fashion.
The U.S. acquisition of Gaza, regardless of whether it would be deemed a US territory or an actual “State”, would have American laws… American Standards…American education… and would represent the identical values of Israel. We would be able to breathe again and go forward with the Abraham Accord nations… to truly create a better Middle East for everyone.
For those who did not understand that Donald Trump was actually a serious leader … this is proof positive that he is much more than his detractors would have had us believe. It is also an indication of what can be achieved when two critical world leaders work together and have the same understanding of the place of government in the lives of their people. They understand that it is to protect their citizens and help them to have a decent quality of life for themselves and their loved ones. It should not be such a shock to see leaders who really want that for their nations and their people. So many heads-of-state around the world do not hold this concept as their mandate. Their goals are quite different, and as a result they create much suffering to support their personal aspirations of dominance, whether it be religious or political.
This is indeed the difference between a true democracy and a dictatorship. The first cares for its people. The later cares for its personal survival and the imposition of specific political or religious ideologies. The people unfortunate enough to live under the rule of dictatorships, are simply their cogs in their political machine to produce that end.
There is no other resolution for the woes of Gaza, which is at all reasonable. Had the Arab nations been the least bit flexible and willing to come together to try to run Gaza themselves… this would not be happening. They turned their backs on the responsibility and the result will have them sweating profusely. “If only…” they had been willing to work together, the United States would not now be breathing down their backs. Perfect proof…that inaction, is actually a form of action as well. Do nothing…and others will fill the vacuum with their own ideas and efforts. It is a basic law of cause and effect… which apparently is not taught or understood in the Muslim world.
For Israelis, the idea of an American presence in the Middle East is the most positive and optimistic concept which has evolved as a result of this horrid war. Pundits complained that Israel did not have a plan for “the day after” in Gaza. As usual, they were wrong. While Trump is taking the credit for this exciting plan, it is undoubtedly the result of Netanyahu and Trump working as a team to find a resolution to this nightmare. It is creative ideas such as these which affect history for eternity.
Politics is the art of the possible, but then who was it that rightly said: “difficult is done at once…the impossible… just takes a bit longer”?
