By the Grace of G-d

Woke

I woke up
From a deep sleep
A loud ring
Just one ring
Was all it took.

So I wondered
Why
What’s the purpose
Why do I need
To be woken up.

Because,
I told myself,
When we sleep
We miss reality.

But dreams
Are also
From a very high source.
Dreams also
Carry meaning.

So it’s a combination.

The dream
That we feel
Permeates,
Allows us
To imbue reality
With the meaning
Of a higher reality.

Because everything
Carries meaning.

The above is based on my understanding of part of a ‘sicha’ (talk at a Chassidic ‘farbrengan’ — get-together) of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. (Likutei Sichos volume 1 page 86)

That although dreams are unrealistic, often contradictory, nevertheless dreams come from higher.

Sometimes, the Rebbe says, people do good deeds, even though they are lacking in certain fundamental aspects and character. Similar to a dream where there are inherent contradictions.

We might think, that the good deeds of such a person are inferior and not truly good.

So the Rebbe explains, that it’s not so. Dreams come from a lofty source. And so too, this person’s effort (doing good deeds despite the contradiction) is lofty, and illuminates the world.

And the culminative effect of the good deeds brings so much light, that we wake up to the true reality, to the wondrous G-dliness that is everywhere.
