A Call for Renewal (and Prime Minister Resignation) in the Days of Awe

The Days of Awe is an annual season of self-examination in Israel and for Jews everywhere. Between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we are called to look inward, seek forgiveness, and begin again with honesty and humility. This sacred work applies to every Jew — from the ordinary citizen to the leaders entrusted with our nation’s future.

Israel today faces enormous challenges: external threats, economic pressures, and deep internal divisions. Public trust has been shaken, and the bonds that unite us as am echad — one people — are strained. If ever there were a time to hear the shofar’s cry as a wake-up call to renewal, it is now.

For Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, these Days of Awe carry a special weight. After years of political conflict and personal legal battles, despite his failures his continued hold on power has become a barrier to national healing. To step aside now would not be an admission of failure but an act of responsibility, even courage.

Resignation in this season would honor a core teaching of the High Holidays: that true strength lies in humility and in knowing when to change course. By doing so, Netanyahu could offer the Israeli people the gift of a fresh start — a chance to rebuild unity, restore trust, and face the future together.

In these Days of Awe, Israel yearns for renewal. The most powerful act of leadership the prime minister could offer is to let the nation move forward — stronger, united, and with hope.
