A Congressional Address to Unite Israel’s American Friends and Supporters
Ladies and Gentlemen of the United States Congress:
Thank you for the honor of addressing this esteemed assembly. It is a privilege to stand here today as the democratically elected Prime Minister of Israel and as a representative of the enduring bond between our two great nations.
In the wake of the horrific violence that struck Israel on October 7th, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the American people for your unwavering support and solidarity. Your compassion and strength during this challenging, painful time have been a beacon of hope for our nation.
The bonds between Israel and the United States are deep and enduring, rooted in shared values and mutual respect. In moments of crisis, these bonds grow even stronger. Your messages of support, prayers, acts of kindness, generous contributions, visits to Israel, and steadfast commitment to our security and well-being have touched the hearts of every Israeli.
We are profoundly grateful for the bipartisan support from the US Congress and the leadership of President Biden, who have stood firmly with Israel in condemning the violence and advocating for our right to defend ourselves. This solidarity is not just a testament to our strong alliance but also a reflection of the American spirit that cherishes freedom, justice, and peace.
The Israeli people have faced immense suffering, but we draw strength from knowing that we are not alone. Your support reinforces our resolve to overcome these dark times and strive for a future where peace and security prevail.
The bond between America and Israel is not just political; it is deeply personal. It is strengthened by the millions of Americans who stand with Israel and by the vibrant Jewish and Christian communities in the United States. It is nurtured by the countless friendships and family ties that connect our peoples.
The United States and Israel are united by our dedication to democratic principles. We both believe in the power of individual liberty, the rule of law, and the importance of human rights. These shared values form the foundation of our relationship and guide our actions at home and on the global stage.
Our alliance is also rooted in the shared history and ideals of Zionism, the national movement of the Jewish people. Zionism represents the legitimate aspiration of Jews to return to our historical homeland and build a sovereign state. The support of the United States has been crucial in realizing this dream, ensuring that Israel remains a beacon of democracy and progress in the Middle East.
In the realm of defense, our cooperation has never been more critical. Despite the enormous risks and sacrifices we’ve made for peace, Israel faces constant threats from hostile neighbors and terrorist organizations. Chief among these threats is Iran, a regime that openly calls for Israel’s destruction and supports terrorism across the Middle East. The unwavering, bipartisan support of the United States Congress has been instrumental in ensuring our security and stability against Iran and its proxies. As the entire world has seen, we have developed advanced defense systems that protect our citizens and contribute to global security.
Our partnership extends beyond defense. In technology and innovation, Israel and the United States are pioneers. Israeli startups and American companies collaborate every day to create cutting-edge solutions that drive economic growth and improve lives around the world. Our joint efforts in science, medicine, and environmental protection are making a significant impact on humanity.
We are also united in our pursuit of peace. Israel remains committed to expanding the circle of peace with all our Arab neighbors. We believe in a future where all the peoples of the Middle East can live side by side in peace, harmony, and security.
However, to achieve lasting peace and stability, it is imperative to address the root causes of the conflict. One of the most pressing issues is the ongoing incitement to violence and the abhorrent “pay to slay” policies endorsed by the Palestinian Authority. These policies, which reward terrorists and their families for acts of violence against innocent Israeli civilians, are not only morally reprehensible but also a major obstacle to peace.
We must urgently demand an end to incitement and that the Palestinian Authority cease these payments immediately. Encouraging violence through financial incentives only fuels the cycle of hatred and undermines any efforts towards reconciliation and peace for Israelis and Arabs alike. It is the responsibility of the international community, including our closest ally the United States, to exert pressure on the Palestinian leadership to halt these destructive practices.
Ending incitement and stopping the “pay to slay” policies are not just necessary for Israel’s security; they are essential steps towards building a foundation for peace and mutual coexistence throughout the Middle East. By addressing these issues head-on, we can move closer to a future where Israelis and all our Arab neighbors can live side by side in peace and security.
Another critical aspect of our security and regional stability is ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon. Iran’s nuclear ambitions pose a grave threat not only to Israel but to the entire world. The regime in Tehran has consistently demonstrated its hostility towards Israel and its willingness to destabilize the region through its support for terrorism and its pursuit of nuclear capabilities.
Israel and the United States are united in our commitment to preventing Iran from building a nuclear bomb. Together, we will use every diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military means to achieve this objective. Our coordinated efforts are crucial in sending a clear message to Iran that its nuclear aspirations will never be tolerated. The security and future of our nations, the region, and indeed the world, depend on our steadfast resolve in this matter.
In this spirit of unity, we must also address the rising tide of antisemitism. Hatred and bigotry against Jews are on the rise globally, and we must stand together to combat this ancient scourge. The United States and Israel must lead the way in promoting tolerance and understanding, ensuring that antisemitism is defeated wherever it rears its ugly head. Our shared commitment to fighting antisemitism is a testament to our values and our resolve to create a world where all people can live free from hatred, discrimination, and fear.
As we look to the future, we must continue to work together to face the challenges and seize the opportunities ahead. Together, we can confront terrorism, expand the circle of peace, advance technological innovation, and defeat antisemitism. Together, we can ensure that the values we cherish continue to guide our actions and inspire others around the world.
The threat posed by Iran is significant, but our shared resolve is stronger. We will not allow a regime that chants “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” to threaten our values and security. With the unbreakable, bipartisan support of the United States Congress, Israel will continue to stand firm against any threat to our existence.
We thank this Congress and the American people for your unwavering support of Israel and for your recognition of the historical and moral significance of Zionism. Our relationship is a testament to what two nations can achieve when they stand together, united by shared values and common goals. May our partnership continue to flourish for generations to come.
May God continue to bless the United States of America and the people of Israel.
