A Never Ending Cycle that Must Come to an End
Dizengoff Street, located in Tel Aviv, is known for its incredible restaurants and fun environment. However, within the last year, numerous terrorist attacks have occurred there. On March 9, 2023, a Palestinian terrorist ran up to three innocent men and shot them as they were on their way to a close friend’s wedding. Unfortunately, one of the men, Or Eshkar, passed away from his wounds 11 days after the attack and two of the three men were critically injured. They were walking peacefully, not bothering anyone and got brutally attacked. This demonstrates the horrors that occur daily by Palestinian terrorists.
The terror occurred on the corner of Dizengoff Street and Ben Gurion Street, an area full of music, laughter and enjoyment, especially on a Thursday night. The attack immediately turned that night from one of fun to one of horror. Terrorist attacks in Israel have been on the rise. From the start of 2023, over 19 people’s lives have been stolen by cruel Palestinian terrorists. Since then, many individuals live in fear of losing their lives or the lives of loved ones.
Then, on April 8th, Maia and Rina Dee, 20 and 15, were killed. A Palestinian gunman, who opened fire on them in their car, committed this act in the Jordan Valley. Their mother, Leah, was wounded in the attack and died three days later. These three individuals lived in the Efrat settlement and were originally from Britain. Moreover, these individuals did not provoke the attack, nor did they interact with the terrorists in any way before being shot in their car. Despite these facts, three lives were taken without reason.
This ongoing cycle of terrorist attacks needs to end. Every few weeks, the media is flooded with new stories of innocent people getting attacked by Palestinian terrorists. It feels as those there is no way to stop the cycle; there isn’t a clear solution because these lives have already been stolen.
All aspects of economics, culture, and politics are affected by the threat of terrorism. In addition to creating instability as well as disrupting peace and coexistence, it directly threatens people’s lives and implements violence in society. The targeting of innocent civilians, regardless of their nationality, is unacceptable. The father of the victims of the attack on April 8th had said, “There is no such thing as a moral equivalence between terrorists and victims.” My heart goes out to all the families who have been affected by the previous incidents, and I hope for the cycle of terrorism to end.
