A new Israel for all of us
The date is important because when we went to sleep on June 14, we thought we would be woken up in the middle of the night by sirens and take the walk down to our shelter one more time!
Between the time we went to sleep and the time we woke up today (not by sirens this time!) history changed!
The United States of Trump (and one only had to look at his birthday celebration to realize the USA has a king now!) and Iran, of who knows who, signed some kind of agreement to extend the present “ceasefire” for another sixty days. And that agreement is hard to evaluate because we, the people of Israel and our government, do not know what is in that agreement- We are outsiders!
Our government was not part of the preparation of this “agreement”. In essence this was the end of the line, of the Bibi-Donald” love-affair, between Trump and “f–-g” crazy Bibi (Trump’s definition not mine!)
This love-affair which began with Bibi coming to speak at the Congress in 2015 to attack the sitting President at that time. I am not, and was not a supporter of President Obama, but the “chutzpa” of Bibi to come to the Congress to tell the elected Representatives to go against the American President is equivalent to Donald coming to our Knesset and telling our President to pardon our Premier who was on trial in an Israeli Court. Bibi and any leader has the right to discuss all of this with leaders of other countries but what Bibi did was an insult to the American political system, just as what Trump did here was an insult to our country!
The bottom line is that Bibi succeeded in breaking the good relations the governments of Israel have always had with the governments of the USA, even when there were very strong disagreements between the two. Bibi has succeeded in ruining the relations of the State of Israel with both political parties in the USA. No Premier in Israel ever succeeded in doing that.
Again the bottom line is that we are no longer headed to a fundamental national disaster-we have arrived!
My appeal is to those of us, especially the political leaders, on all sides of the political spectrum, who are not associated with the present leadership of our government, to put your egos away and work to bring a new government to power, whose major interest will be our national survival, both in terms of security but also in terms our society. For the past few years, the government and its leaders have done everything possible to create a government which is not acceptable to many of us on all sides of the political spectrum. It is time for those of us who plan to vote for the Bennetts and Lapids and the Kahanes, and the Golans and the Eisenkopts and the Leibermans to make their main goal the creation of a new government, (independent of which one is the new premier) which will worry about all its citizens, independent of party!
It is enough to speak to our young people to realize that another Bibi government will push many of our young to look for another home in spite of the new wave of antisemitism which exists in the West. They will go back to being Jews in an unfriendly diaspora and it is the situation here now, which is driving them out of what was supposed to be the Jewish Homeland-for all Jews!!
We must change the government now to save our homeland!
