A Week of Misery… A Day of Joy

Israelis are known to complain about everything. High prices. The weather. Politics. More politics. Followed by hundreds of et ceteras. It is our national hobby. We are a too-disgruntled people, seldom satisfied with the blessings we have.

The past week has been a week of misery for all Israelis, in particular for the residents of Tel-Aviv. A mentally ill Israeli Arab from Arara went on a killing mission, ending in the wounding of several people and the killing of three, two in the Simta bar and the third, an Arab Israeli taxi driver.

For the entire week we have had a national manhunt for Nashat Milhem. Tel-Aviv was searched in every corner, to no avail. Rumors were spread that he probably had fled to the West Bank where he would be sheltered. Our Shin Bet Security Services and our national police did not rest until the killer was caught.

Today is a day of joy for all of us. Nashat Milhem was located in the north. Instead of surrendering and being taken alive, he shot at the police who in turn returned the fire and shot him dead.

I think this day will go down in the Guiness Book of Records as the day when no Israeli complained.

Today is a day for rejoicing and for giving thanks to our devoted, dedicated and fearless men and women of our national police force and of the Shin Bet Security Services. They did not rest for a moment until Nashat Milhem, murderer of innocent civilians, was located and caught.

There is never a way to predict when and where a terrorist will strike. We take every precaution to prevent it but there is never a guarantee. Patrons sitting at a bar enjoying a refreshing beverage are suddenly shot dead by a passer-by who nobody suspected. People standing in line at a bus stop are killed by Arabs ramming their cars into the crowds. Where will it all end? And when and how will it end?

And concerning the miserable young Jewish terrorists who seek through anarchy to overturn our government and system of laws, to be replaced by a monarchy and a messianic King of Israel, we need to eradicate the root of their lunatic behavior.

The radical rabbis in the settlements are inciters of hatred against Arabs and Christians and their messages of hate encourage and inspire the “hilltop youth” to desecrate non-Jewish places of worship and to kill innocent Arab children and families.

Some of those hate-filled rabbis have been brought into court but never charged. That is a grave error. They must be found guilty of incitement to terror and of racial hatred. These are crimes which must be eternally abolished from our country.

These fringe rabbis have been condemned by the normative rabbinical community and by religious Jews who denounce and detest their motives. It is up to our Security Services to offer them the choice of silence or imprisonment.

It is time for us, decent, law-abiding citizens of Israel to bring back the Israel that we love and to expel from our midst those who would seek to harm her.

The week of misery has ended. A day of joy is born. Let the joy reign supreme among us. Death to misery. Long life to peace, tranquility and happiness.
