Albania and Israel have long enjoyed a relationship founded on friendship, mutual respect, and shared historical values. Today, that friendship is increasingly reflected in a flourishing economic partnership.

From growing trade and investment to tourism and technological cooperation, ties between our countries continue to strengthen. Yet, as encouraging as this progress is, I believe we have only begun to explore what Albania and Israel can achieve together.

Trade and Investment: A Relationship Gaining Momentum

In 2025, bilateral merchandise trade reached approximately €37 million. Albanian exports to Israel rose from around €4 million in 2024 to €10.4 million in 2025, while imports from Israel reached approximately €27 million.

Israeli investment has also gained momentum, reaching approximately €19 million during the first nine months of 2025.

These figures demonstrate that our economic relationship is already producing tangible results.

Albanian agricultural products, food, textiles, and manufactured goods have opportunities in Israel, while Israeli medical equipment, technologies, and industrial solutions can support Albania’s modernization.

Nevertheless, considerable potential remains to diversify trade, expand distribution networks, and strengthen direct business partnerships.

Technology and Services: Complementary Strengths

Israel is internationally recognized for innovation, cybersecurity, medical technology, and agricultural solutions. Albania offers a growing services industry, a multilingual workforce, competitive operating costs, and an increasingly international business environment.

Together, these strengths create opportunities in software development, business process outsourcing, customer support, and professional services.

Technology transfers, joint ventures, and cooperation between universities and entrepreneurs could further strengthen this relationship.

For Albania, these partnerships mean skilled employment and modernization. For Israeli companies, they offer access to an emerging market and a strategic operational base in Southeastern Europe.

Tourism: A Remarkable Success Story

Tourism is perhaps the most visible example of our growing partnership.

Direct flights between Tel Aviv and Tirana have helped increase Israeli tourism considerably. In November 2025, Albania’s Ministry of Tourism reported a 570% increase in Israeli visitors compared with the corresponding period in 2024.

Albania offers Mediterranean beaches, historic cities, breathtaking mountains, excellent cuisine, and genuine hospitality.

Our historical connection adds another dimension. Albania’s protection of Jews during the Holocaust remains a source of national pride and an enduring symbol of friendship between our peoples.

Further opportunities exist in year-round tourism, cultural exchanges, hospitality investment, and cooperation between tourism operators in both countries.

Turning Progress into Greater Opportunities

Our governments have continued strengthening the foundations for economic cooperation.

In October 2026, Albania and Israel signed a general cooperation agreement covering economic relations, innovation, agriculture, energy, healthcare, education, and tourism.

However, the next chapter must also be written by entrepreneurs, investors, professionals, and business communities.

Bilateral business forums, trade delegations, stronger chambers of commerce partnerships, and improved access for small and medium-sized enterprises could accelerate cooperation.

Renewable energy, water management, agricultural technology, healthcare, digital services, and tourism infrastructure represent particularly promising sectors.

These opportunities can generate economic benefits while strengthening the connections between our societies.

A Flourishing Partnership with Its Best Chapters Ahead

Albania and Israel have demonstrated that their relationship extends beyond historical friendship and diplomatic goodwill.

Trade is growing. Investment is increasing. Tourism is flourishing. New opportunities are emerging.

As an Albanian, I see tremendous value in strengthening relations with a country internationally recognized for innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological achievement. Equally, Albania has much to offer through its people, businesses, strategic location, and expanding economy.

Our countries do not need to begin building an economic partnership. We already have one, and it is flourishing.

What we need now is the ambition to take it further.

The foundations are strong, the opportunities are real, and the potential extends far beyond today’s economic figures.

The best chapters of Albanian–Israeli economic cooperation may still be ahead of us.
