The Blogs: ‘Antisemitism’ to ‘Zionism’. Your A-Z a guide to anti-Israel slurs and smears

I know the headline says this is of A-Z guide to anti-Israel lies, slurs, smears and libels, and it was certainly supposed to be an A-Z guide. The problem is that there were so many lies, slurs, smears and libels that this blog was turning into a book (publishers please note).

It was only up to G (and I bet you can guess what ludicrous libel “G” stands for) and it was already up to 3,000-plus words, so I’m stopping half-way, at M (for “Media Bias” since you ask.) Part two, N-Z is coming soon. It will include the Naqba myth, Terrorism and Useful Idiots. Maybe not as comprehensive as planned, but I hope it’s helpful.

ANTISEMITISM/ANTIZIONISM

For those who think Antisemitism and Antizionism are different, the late, great British Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks pointed out in a widely quoted lecture in 2016 that antizionism was merely a mutation of the millennia-old virus of antisemitism – AKA Jew-hate.

As I can’t hope to explain this phenomenon in a few dozen words (or at all), I will merely suggest reading one of the many excellent books by one of the many erudite authors who explain this ugly mutation in detail. They include Dave Rich (in “The Left’s Jewish Problem”); Denis MacShane ( in “Globalising Hatred: The New Antisemitism”); Shalom Lappin (in “The New Antisemitism: The Resurgence of An Ancient Hatred in the Modern World”) and Dara Horn’s “People Love Dead Jews”.

I will also say that, in my opinion, not all antizionism is an expression of Jew-hate –or is not intended as an expression of Jew-hate.

There are deluded, indoctrinated people – including very many deluded, “progressives” (including Progressive, u/c “P” Jews) – who do not hate Jews. Indeed they all firmly believe they are “good people” for siding with the Israel-haters. They are not good people; they are merely gullible and indoctrinated people. Clearly many of them think that when they post anti-Israel comments on social-media or join the pro-Palestine marches that they are expressing opposition to the actions of Israel or of its government, or are merely being compassionate to “poor Palestinians” who are the “victims” of Israel because that’s the narrative they have been fed. In reality, however, they are supporting a global extremist-Islamist movement which seeks far different objectives and hides behind a fig-leaf of “compassion” while making Palestinians forever refugees in order to serve as political pawns, PR window-dressing and, of course to be radicalised to be attack-dogs for terrorism in pursuit of one of those objectives – the total destruction of the world’s single Jewish state.

APARTHEID STATE

This is frankly so self-evidently absurd that believing it is exactly like believing that the earth is flat. For the epically stupid who insist on believing it, this is the evidence: Israel has a total population of 9 million full citizens, of whom 4 million full citizens are Muslim of mainly Palestinian heritage. Full citizens work in every profession including arts, medicine, media, the judiciary, police entertainment and elite sports – frequently at the highest level. Israel has over 400 Mosques which indicates religious freedom. Muslim citizens vote and are represented in parliament; Muslim citizens may serve in the army but are not conscripted. There are no restrictions on where Muslim citizens may live, work, dine, watch a film or perform any activity.

So how, you may wonder, did the myth of apartheid take hold?

Well, if you are setting out to deceive, as the openly hostile Amnesty International was when it set out to “prove” that Israel was “an apartheid state”, it’s easy.

You use obfuscation and simply ignore facts and complexities which would render your thesis as ludicrous. Such as ignoring the fact that the status of Palestinian Arabs living in the West Bank and Gaza is necessarily different from that of Arabs who are fully integrated citizens of Israel, but are “citizens” of an entity that has been trying to destroy Israel for almost 80 years. But the openly hostile Amnesty International flagrantly ignored the legal complexities between Arab citizens of Israel and those governed by Israel’s sworn enemies et voila, the illusion of “apartheid” was created.

AGGRESSOR (cf “Coloniser”).

Israel’s ability to win wars and military campaigns, and strike back against terrorism has allowed its enemies to first create – and then push and exploit– a perception of Israel as an “aggressor” and even a “coloniser” .

But if you were a nation roughly the size of New Jersey with a population of 9.5 million, squaring up to 19 mostly hostile neighbouring states (including Iran with a nuclear programme) in a land area of roughly 570 MILLION sq kms and a combined population of roughly 450 million. And your enemies had been trying to “push you into the sea” for almost 80 years, you would need to be powerful and creative in defending yourself from total destruction

So, yes, Israel is undeniably a strong nation or it would have been crushed in the wars, campaigns of attrition and terror attacks that have been launched against it since the moment of its birth in 1948.

In the mid-70s, Golda Meir addressed the issue of Israel’s alleged “aggression” and “war-mongering”, saying that “if the Arabs laid down their arms, there’d be no more war” and “if Israel laid down its arms, there’d be no more Israel.” That is as true today, except it would probably need to be amended to: “If Iran and its proxies laid down their arms, there’d be no more war” etc…

BABY-KILLER

The origin of this vile blood-libel – an accusation that’s been spat at Jews across the globe – comes principally from headlines generated by a clumsily-worded United Nations report which gave a projected estimate (i.e a prediction) of a possibility that “up to” 14,100 children “could” suffer malnutrition “over a period of more than 18 months” due to the overall situation in Gaza.

Major media outlets simply ran stories with headlines stating that 14,000 babies were “expected to die in 48 hours” which was categorically not true. By the time the UN admitted the “mistake” the harm had been done. This “conditional risk assessment” became a claim of the “imminent mass deaths of Gaza babies” and “proof” of Israeli “baby-killers”.

A few outlets amended their coverage or apologised – though not the BBC. But all apologised so quietly and inconspicuously that no-one noticed. (cf “Famine”)

BBC

We have been seeing remorseless, undisguised, grievously biased coverage of Israel from the BBC for almost three decades.

but since Oct 7, its bias has been ratcheted up even further with an anti-Israel spin placed on virtually every story from every reporter or correspondent. We have also seen:

The reporting of unverified allegations, fake stories and fabrications (for further details, see “Media Bias”)
A shameful refusal to retract stories that turn out to be false, or if forced to offer a correction or apology doing it so inconspicuously that no-one notices
Failing to report the Government’s formal determination that Israel was not committing genocide in Gaza
A general refusal to report stories that might disrupt a narrative of Palestinians as “victims” of Israel such as, unbelievably, its failure to report the Bibas Family funeral on what was demonstrably a quiet news day.
Its incessant use of “trusted correspondents” who were clearly partisan and likely to be Hamas operatives, Hamas fighters or to have at the very least, Hamas associations – which has now been proven with the publication of obituaries by Hamas and other Islamic Jihadist terrorist organisations
Its collusion in keeping “Gaza” on the news agenda by turning any and every Hamas allegation into “news” while failing to report facts, such as rockets falling on Israel from Gaza at a time when Hamas was claiming it had no fuel and no power.
Its repeated, perfidious failure to contextualise stories
Its willingness to give extensive coverage to allegations or “findings” from NGOs or individuals with ties to Palestinians OR from agencies or individuals known to be hostile to Israel
Its repeated failure to explain that “sources” were not only not impartial or objective but were actively partisan on behalf of Palestinians, eg UNWRA, Doctors Without Borders.
Its willingness to repeatedly amplify and embellish libels such as “mass starvation”, with “findings” or “reports” from organisations or individuals that were known to be hostile, but which it portrayed as “humanitarian” and “impartial”.
The failure to instantly cut the feed from Glastonbury when a previously unheard-of band began chanting for the death of soldiers defending their nation from the declared threat of destruction
And of course, that Gaza “documentary” in which Hamas played such a key role in production and casting.

A deep, collective, Left-Liberal-Progressive tendency to believe the whole fake, Soviet-fabricated narrative of Palestinian “victimhood” led it to be complicit with Jew-hating, fundamentalist Islamists and turned it into a mouthpiece for Jihadist terrorists, That, together with its willingness to tolerate overt Jew-haters on BBC Arabic, has turned the BBC into one of the biggest drivers of antisemitism on the planet.

BOYCOTT/BDS

Those who believe that boycotts, BDS etc, are an “appropriate” response to Israel’s “crimes” against Palestinians, should be aware that Israel’s enemies have been attempting to crush it – somewhat ironically, perhaps, in light of the antisemitic trope about Jews “controlling” capitalism – through economic boycotts, etc, since the 1940s

Israel’s enemies launched an international boycott in 1945. Let me repeat that date: Nineteen Forty Five. which is not only more than two entire decades before the pretext of Israel’s “occupation” of the West Bank, Gaza or anywhere, but three years before there was a Jewish state and therefore three years before the pretext of Palestinian “refugees”.

The Arab League used its eye-watering oil-wealth and power to launch an aggressive, multilateral, multi-layered international boycott aimed at crushing the Jewish state even before it became a state. That boycott continued until the 1990s.

BDSers who cherish the belief that anti-Israel activism is not antisemitic should be aware that the 1945-1991 boycott included the boycotting of companies that had any Jewish employees. While today’s official BDS campaign hasn’t yet gone that far – yet – we only have to look at the bullying and intimidation – of, among others, Maureen Lipman for merely standing up for Israel’s right to exist – to see that excluding Jews from festivals, cultural events etc is definitely on the agenda.

COLONISER

The idea of the Jewish state as a coloniser is so utterly absurd that it shouldn’t need to be refuted but despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, there are many deluded people who do believe this myth. So let’s examine the reality: in 2026, Israel’s land area is 22,000 sq km (8,500 square miles, or as previously mentioned, roughly the size of the state of New Jersey). It is surrounded by a contiguous Islamic land area of 5.1 million square miles (13.2 million sq km) containing a combined population of 570 million people of whom the overwhelming majority are Muslim.

But, as we know, size isn’t everything. So let’s observe that, demonstrably, Israel has never set out to conquer territory and only incorporates East Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, because in 1967 it won a war launched by its Soviet-armed Arab enemies. It briefly incorporated the Sinai desert – again by winning yet another war launched by its Soviet-armed Arab enemies (in 1973), and wherever possible – and in direct contradiction of the “coloniser” myth – Israel returned territory. In 1982, as part of its peace deal with Egypt, it returned the Sinai Desert and in the 1990s under the terms of the Oslo Accords, it gave most of the West Bank to the Palestinian Authority. And in 2005 – again in the name of peace – it forcibly evicted the Jewish population of Gaza and gave the entire Gaza Strip to the Palestinians.

There is another part to the vile libel that Jews are “colonisers”. This is based on the entirely spurious claim that as Israeli Jews are “from Russia and Poland” they cannot be indigenous. But this ludicrous assertion that Israel is a “settler colonialist project” – or similar – deliberately ignores all the facts, including that up to 43 percent of Israel’s Jews are Sephardi/Mizrachi/Black and that despite forced exile and dispersion, Jews maintained a continuous presence in the Land of Israel from Bible Times onward. And most critically, that throughout their exile, dispersion and persecution, they continued to recite their thrice-daily prayers facing Jerusalem, asking God every day to return them to Zion, their home, and asking for the next year to be in Jerusalem.

Among those who firmly reject the “settler colonialist” label used against Israel are Native American, Maori, and Apache leaders who have called Israel “the most successful land-back story in modern history”.

So yes, Jews did come to the modern State of Israel from Russia, Poland, Iraq, Morocco, etc but that, as Professor of International Relations, Dr Yvette Alt Miller says, was “a momentous example of an indigenous people returning to their homeland.”

If we are considering indigeneity, it is important to note that the Arab population of Palestine mostly comprised those who had either drifted there or had been exiled to this most deprived corner of the levant , or – ironically – were attracted to it by the resurgent Jewish presence which brought jobs and prosperity.

But as size is always a factor, we will conclude by observing that there is a single, really tiny Jewish state on the entire planet, and that in 2026, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has 57 member states. This might suggest – to those capable of critical thinking – that if there is any “colonising” going on, it is not by Israel

DISINFORMATION

Israel did not starve the population of Gaza; did not commit genocide in Gaza; is not an apartheid state; is not a coloniser. If anyone thinks it did any of those things, or is any of them, the reason is Disinformation – a vast, multi-billion dollar, multilateral disinformation campaign funded ultimately by oil wealth and spreading its tentacles into education, media, medicine, commerce and anywhere else it can.

Disinformation is defined by Einat Wilf as “the War of Words” and by Eylon Levy as the “Information War Against Israel” and it is the reason why Israel has been found guilty in the court of Public Opinion for the tragic – but demonstrably collateral – deaths of children in Gaza which were the inevitable (and for the Palestinian puppet-masters, hoped-for) result of Israel’s defence of its nation and people.

Disinformation is the reason why Hamas escapes the wholly justified epithet “Baby-killers” despite ample evidence for their responsibility for the deliberate murders of Israeli babies and children on Oct 7 – recorded on their own videos – and the cold-blooded strangling of the Bibas babies while in captivity in Gaza. Also, if Hamas were not the real Baby-killers why did they not protect their own babies and children by building shelters under Gaza instead of a vast network of tunnels for storing missiles, weaponry and for purely offensive purposes. If Hamas were not the real baby-killers why were children and babies not allowed to shelter in the tunnels it reserved exclusively for its leaders and fighters. If Hamas were not the real Baby-killers why did they deliberately embed in kindergartens, schools, hospitals and in the heart of civilian areas. But Hamas actively wished for destruction and death – and especially the deaths of babies and children – because of the disinformation which it knew would lead to headlines we saw.

There is copious, carefully researched evidence that reveals just some of the techniques used by Palestinian propagandists to spread Disinformation, including fake videos produced with AI to claim that Gaza children had been injured or killed by Israeli operations; fake images – again produced using AI – to claim that children were malnourished; genuine images of starving children from other conflicts used to claim that children in Gaza were starving; pictures of Gaza children with chronic, pre-existing medical conditions, such as cancer or genetic diseases, whose skeletal appearance was attributed to Israeli operations – such as the infamously deceptive image used by The New York Times; and of course the use of “journalists” in Gaza who were not journalists at all but Hamas associates – as many of us said at the time and is now being confirmed by their Hamas obituaries.

While it is tragic that children were suffering, the claim that Israel was principally responsible was a deliberate lie that has demonstrably inflamed Jew-hate.

And, of course Disinformation could not have been so astoundingly successful without the aid of a gullible, intimidated, complicit – perhaps even infiltrated – media, alongside the – perhaps unconscious – internalisation of millennia-old anti-Jewish tropes.

ETHNIC CLEANSING

Yet another claim that is not only absurd but actually the complete reverse of reality. As Population Censuses reveal, there has been a continuous Jewish presence in Palestine – previously Judea – since Bible Times and Jews had usually been a majority in Jerusalem . The Jewish and Arab population had co-existed until the rise of Arab nationalism in the 20th century led to violent clashes and riots (in which, invariably, Jews were slaughtered for merely being Jews and wishing to live in their own ancestral homeland). These clashes, riots and massacres didn’t just lead to Partition and Palestinian Arabs turning down their own state in Palestine. They also led to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan grabbing East Jerusalem and the area until then known as Judea and Samaria, which they swiftly renamed “the West Bank” to erase its Jewish association.

They didn’t just grab it and rename it but they kicked out the Jews . Just to be clear, that is, the Arab state of Jordan “ethnically cleansed” those areas of the Jewish presence which had been continuous for 5,000 years.

Also at roughly the same time, Egypt “ethnically cleansed” Jews from Gaza which had had a Jewish presence since Biblical times. And if we are discussing “ethnic cleansing”, we really cannot ignore the 900,000 Jews who in 1948 were “ethnically cleansed” from Arab lands where their ancestors had lived since the Dispersion.

On the other hand, Palestinian Arabs were definitely not “ethnically cleansed”. In 1948, almost half of the “Palestinian refugees”, became full citizens of Israel. And even on the West Bank where the situation is far more complex, there are 2.345 million Palestinian Arabs, compared with 600,000 in 1967, which doesn’t suggest any “ethnic cleansing” there, either.

Strange then, how Jews are condemned for an action they demonstrably did not commit, while the Arab nations and Palestinians are let off the hook for actual ethnic cleansing.

FAMINE

While there were undoubtedly food shortages in parts of Gaza during the war, “Famine in Gaza” was – and remains – a carefully crafted, expensively-wrought illusion.

Some sectors of the population were made to suffer – for propaganda purposes and photo-opps, Notably, I imagine, the poorest and least “connected” (and their children). But it is basically a Jihadist/Hamas libel that was willingly perpetuated by an actively hostile United Nations, assisted by actively hostile aid agencies and NGOs.

The illusion was reinforced in a variety of ways, including selectivity with – and massaging of – statistics over the amount of aid getting in to Gaza; a refusal to acknowledge (or report) the vast amounts of aid being stolen by Hamas (either to resell for profit, or to ensure its its “fighters” were well-fed); the UN’s refusal – under a variety of pretexts – to distribute aid (as demonstrated by those millions of jars of baby-food left to rot in the sun); and most heinously by the UN manipulating the criteria for “malnutrition” when it lowered the threshold in order to claim Gaza’s children were starving.

And it was all enthusiastically amplified by a gullible and/or complicit media. Notably, the New York Times whose page one photo of the “starving” Gaza child clutched Madonna-like in his mother’s arms did so much to promote the Hamas blood libel.

As the NYT editors had cropped the image to remove a well-nourished sibling, the publication must have known that the infant’s skeletal appearance was not due to “starvation”. Yet it chose to make the child a poster-boy for a blood libel. And even after its deception was revealed, it refused to apologise but merely tweaked the caption on a photo that had millions of clicks and had done so much to promote a blood libel.

“Famine” (and, of course, “genocide”) weren’t the only illusory – or manufactured – “hardships” being pushed by actively hostile aid agencies, NGOs and media. There was also the “fuel shortages” which was quite obviously illusory since Hamas continued to fire thousands of fuel-guzzling ballistic missiles into Israel for months on end, as observed in this blog, “Rockets, What Rockets?”.

GENOCIDE

The Big One. This heinous blood libel is widely believed, but virtually every piece of proper, objective evidence about Gaza points to the fact that “Genocide” is another illusion, painstakingly and punishingly expensively created by Hamas – or rather by those funding Hamas – through lies, libels, manipulation, disinformation and faked photos. After special assistance from a corrupt, near-bankrupt South Africa, the allegation was given spurious credibility by actively hostile elements of the ICC; and was then reinforced by the actively hostile United Nations, actively hostile aid agencies, and actively hostile NGOs. Special committees provably infiltrated by extremist Islamists – or their supporters – then gave it a further push before an actively hostile/compliant-complicit/intimidated/gullible media endlessly amplified it.

For the avoidance of doubt, the tragic but unavoidable collateral death of civilians in a war is not Genocide. Genocide is the brutal, systematic, industrial-scale slaughter such as that of 6 million Jews in Europe between 1942 and 1945 for no other reason than that they were Jews.

War, on the other hand, is where – tragically – civilians as well as combatants die as a result of military action. And in the case of the alleged Gaza “genocide”, a war begun by the side accusing Israel of Genocide. A war begun not only without caring how many civilians died – especially children – but began with active intention of causing deaths for the headlines it would provoke.

As I said in a blog, those who believe in the illusion of “genocide” despite all the evidence to the contrary – and that includes some Jews – are behaving like the craven courtiers and sheep-like citizens in the Hans Christian Andersen story who all “agreed” the emperor’s clothes were “fine” even though he was naked.

HAMAS

I have nothing useful to add to the thousands of words written about Hamas, the jihadist terrorist entity behind the Oct 7 atrocities, and also the “government” of Gaza. It’s hardly a secret that Israel backed Hamas in the early 2000s, seeing it as a way to reduce the influence of other Palestinian organisations that were openly fomenting violent unrest and funding and perpetrating deadly terrorism. With hindsight,it’s easy to see how, in the kaleidoscope of regional ideologies, this could go spectacularly wrong. Which it did, when seized by Iran to be its preferred proxy.

HEZBOLLAH

Again, I have nothing useful to add to the thousands of words written about Hezbollah, the jihadist terrorist entity and Iranian military proxy in Lebanon, except to say that they have been digging into Lebanon both literally and metaphorically since the 1980s. And very literally into Southern Lebanon since the 1990s, right under the noses of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil). Unifil’s soldiers apparently failed to spot that Hezbollah were installing a network of tunnels under South Lebanon villages, including at least one large enough to drive a truck through.

Anyway, Hezbollah has hopefully been neutered again. This time not by exploding pagers but by an agreement between Israel and Lebanon.

HISTORY

Those who promote (or believe) the Palestinian narrative have accepted a version of Middle East history which is entirely fake. Actually that’s not quite true. It’s not entirely fake as it includes a few facts which are unavoidable or have to be there in order for the fake version to make sense – a bit like Shroedinger’s cat. For example every version states that there were upwards of “700,000 Palestinian refugees.” That is true, but their version never, ever acknowledges that almost half became full citizens of the new state of Israel, nor that at the same time, 900,000 Jews became refugees when they were kicked out of Arab lands where their ancestors had lived for centuries. Also, their “history” ignores that – as previously mentioned – every Palestinian refugee could have ceased to be a refugee – as the 900,000 Jews ceased to be refugees – except they were needed as the raison d’etre for UNRWA and were such a potent PR and propaganda weapon.

It is undeniable that in pure demographic terms, Muslims outnumbered Jews in Palestine in the late 19th and early 20th centuries but emphatically not because Arabs and Muslims were indigenous to this most inhospitable part of the Levant but for social and economic reasons The clue to the authentic history of Palestine lies in its original name – Judea. It was renamed “Palestine” – which, ironically, Palestinians cannot even pronounce – by the Romans to erase its Jewish heritage. Yet despite serial exile and dispersion, Jews were a continuous presence from Bible Times onward, including as a majority in the old walled city of Jerusalem from which they were evicted by Jordan (cf “ethnic cleansing”). In fact, for centuries Jews were incontestably synonymous with Palestine until the Soviet Union decided an “alternative” and fake history would serve its geo-political cause.

INFLUENCE

Today, any bimbo or himbo with a nice smile, epic self-belief and a smart-phone can be an Influencer (upper-case “I”). But before “Influencers” (upper-case “I”) were a thing there were influencers (lower-case “i”) at work persuading us to buy this or that brand or product. And not just brands and products; influencers have exploited their soft power to persuade us that Narnia is a real place. Well, okay, not Narnia. Palestine. And to make Israel into a “pariah” for defending itself from the literal threat of annihilation.

The influencing began with the fake but highly plausible, Soviet-fabricated Palestinian narrative which was peddled in Higher Education institutions ensuring that in the future those running news-rooms; winning seats in parliament; toiling in local politics or rising through the ranks in trade unions – basically helping operate the levers of power – would have fully absorbed this fake version of Middle East history and would ensure it spread widely.

Indeed just a month or so ago, we saw its latest effect in the NASUWT teaching union when real-life imitated that famous “Not The 9 O’Clock News” sketch highlighting the stranglehold of hard-Left unions on UK industry. In the sketch, “shop stewards” Griff Rees-Jones and Mel Smith overruled dozens of their “members” who wanted tea, by voting for coffee. In this real-life scenario, the NASUWT members rejected a boycott of Israel, but the pro-Palestine “executive” overruled them and implemented one anyway.

JEWS

Synonyms: Israelites, Hebrews, Zionists.

Given the vast hinterland of literature on Jews and Judaism, as well as a possibly even vaster hinterland of books about Jews in – well, everything – I have nothing useful to add here. I will just suggest that we remember that this extraordinary, luminous contribution to almost every aspect of human existence has been achieved despite our infinitesimally small numbers – including, in terms of 20th and 21st century achievements, the fact that the global Jewish population has still not recovered from the millions slaughtered in the Europe-wide genocide against Jews just for being Jews. In 1939 – before Hitler’s “Final Solution” – the population of Jews, worldwide, was 16.6 million. Eighty years on, in 2025, the population of Jews, worldwide was around 16 million.

For those who claim that the single Jewish state is perpetrating a “genocide” against Palestinians, these statistics should confirm their delusion: in 1967, when the planet’s one Jewish state acquired Gaza from Egypt (via a war it did not start, but won), the Arab-Muslim population was 356,000. Today, it is 2.14 million. Similarly, in 1967, the Arab-Muslim population of the West Bank was 600,000. In 2024, it was 2.365 million.

If anyone believes all the libellous nonsense about Israel – especially the “coloniser” legend – they only need to look at a map or atlas, and note that Israel is so tiny its name usually appears alongside it in the sea. It has a land area of 22,000 sq kms – which makes it around the same size as the US state of New Jersey (or for UK xenophobes, the size of Wales). It would fit into California roughly eight times. As observed previously, it is surround by 16 MILLION sq kms of contiguous Muslim lands with a combined population of roughly 450 million. As also previously observed, it is also powerful for reasons too obvious to repeat, but these may be found under “AGGRESSOR” for anyone who seeking enlightenment.

MEDIA BIAS

Where do we start? And please don’t be fooled by the “fashion” credentials on my FB page – my journalistic career was a lot less frivolous for its first 30-odd years, and for most of it, I was observing – often commenting on – media bias.

For explicit examples of how this bias is manifested, see under “BBC.” Most of the same tactics are used by other broadcasters and media outlets, each of which seem to have at least one obvious on-air “Palestine” advocate and/or obvious Isreal-hater.

The origins of media bias lie in the cold-war era when the Soviet Union was aggressively pursuing its own regional geo-political agenda, as well as supporting the geo-political ambitions of its Arab “clients” who had thus far failed to defeat Israel despite 3 all-out wars, deadly campaigns of attrition and incessant, murderous terrorism (across the world as well as inside Israel).

When considering the clear anti-Israel bias in media, we should first ask how likely is it that so many journalists would spontaneously become sympathetic to the Palestinian cause when all the evidence (Israel’s land area; population size; having been attacked in wars, campaigns of attrition, by missiles, by Iranian proxies, and, most egregiously, subjected to 80 years of deadly terrorism) Israel can be seen as anything other than the victim of a campaign of annihilation. Perhaps, therefore, we should consider that the first objective of the “Information War” against Israel was “capturing” the media. And then consider how that was done.

Journalists’ allegiance to anti-Israelism could not be achieved with the same naked Israel-hate and Jew-hate that plays well on the streets of Tehran or Tunis. The “gateway” narrative would have to be acceptable to liberals and “progressives”, even to progressive Jews (especially Progressive, u/c “P”, Jews) whom the campaign hoped to capture. What better way to package the pathological hatred than wrapping it in the apparent altruism of helping the “Palestinians” who, as the KGB narrative claimed, had been “dispossessed” by those “colonialist-settler” Jews. It even played into age-old antisemitic tropes.

The reality is that – like the 900,000 Jewish refugees from Arab lands – the 400,000 Palestinian refugees could easily have ceased to be “refugees”. Especially, given that there are some 27 Arab League states, 55 Muslim-majority states, and colossal oil-wealth. But, as previously observed, “Palestinian refugees” were far too valuable to be allowed to lead non-refugee lives. In addition to their value as political pawns, for terrorism and to keep the UNRWA gravy-train on track, their “plight” would foment and foster anti-Israel bias among journos and in liberal, Western media.

In addition to all the methods for promoting anti-Israelism seen under “BBC”, a number of keyboard warriors – myself included – have set out the process by which an unverified – invariably entirely fabricated – allegation is transform into headlines across the planet. It works like this:

A “Press bulletin” is issued by, say, Hamas. It contains an allegation against Israel.
This “Press bulletin” with its fake allegation is picked up by a journalist who is – pick one – biased/intimidated/hungry for a story/stupid. Or is perhaps not by a journalist at all but by a Hamas fighter or affiliate posing as a journalist – as revealed by those Hamas obituaries.
He/she reports the allegation as a “story” covering his/her disgraceful willingness to reproduce propaganda with the weasel words “claimed” or “alleged” – or not.
One of the very many NGOs hostile to Israel will then quote the news-story as “further” evidence of Israel’s .
The UN will then cite the NGO’s “finding” and issue a report condemning the unverified allegation.
The press will then close the circle with a new story on the UN report

And all of it a house of cards, based on an unverified – most likely entirely fictitious – allegation made by an enemy which wishes to annihilate the Jewish state.
