At Bar-Ilan University, Young Dreamers Become Future Leaders

These are not mere childhood games—they are glimpses into the aspirations of the children of Bar-Ilan University faculty members. In their playful yet determined way, already imagine themselves as the scientists, doctors, and engineers of tomorrow.

This newly released series of videos (watch them for yourself here) showcasing these children is more than a charming reminder of how deeply values are passed down from one generation to the next. It symbolizes the very heart of Bar-Ilan’s mission: to educate, inspire, and prepare future leaders who will advance Israel and the world.

At Bar-Ilan, the future of Israel’s scientific and technological leadership begins well before students set foot on a college campus. With the support of a transformative $20 million gift from The Haron Dahan Foundation, the university’s pioneering Dahan Youth Program is expanding to reach even more young people across Israel.

This flagship STEM initiative has already impacted more than 8,000 students between the ages of 9 and 17, offering two distinct tracks: one for gifted students with extraordinary scientific aptitude, and another designed to enrich the education of students from under-resourced schools who lack access to strong STEM programs. Whether a prodigy eager to push the boundaries of scientific discovery, or a student who might otherwise be overlooked, each child is given the opportunity to thrive—through mentorship, hands-on learning, and access to state-of-the-art laboratories at Bar-Ilan.

This is how we build a generation of innovators. This is how we secure Israel’s place in the global scientific community.

But nurturing young talent is only one part of Bar-Ilan’s bold vision. Israel faces a critical challenge: Too many of its brightest researchers pursue postdoctoral work abroad and never return. If Israel cannot retain its best scientific minds, the ripple effects are profound—undermining the nation’s economic competitiveness, its technological edge in national defense, and even its leverage in building peace with neighbors.

That is why Bar-Ilan has launched an unprecedented initiative to recruit at least 100 Israeli researchers currently working overseas to return home. By investing in world-class facilities, equipment, and graduate students, Bar-Ilan is ensuring that these scholars can continue groundbreaking work in Israel rather than abroad. In doing so, the university strengthens not only its own academic standing but also the scientific and cultural foundation upon which Israel’s future prosperity depends.

Across the educational continuum—from young children to postdoctoral researchers—Bar-Ilan is staunchly committed to this mission. That is why, when I watch the children of Bar-Ilan’s faculty dream of being scientists themselves, I see more than innocence and imagination. I see the embodiment of Israel’s future: a nation determined to thrive through knowledge, discovery, and innovation.
