By far, not all details are known yet about the rampage one 21-year-old with a gun inflicted leaving eight people dead. But speculation, if this was a hate crime against Asian-Americans, began almost immediately when the news broke. While the police released the opinion of the shooter who claimed it was his sex addiction that made him do it. I want to highlight a few things that are really not mentioned in the reporting I saw.
These seven women and one man whom he shot to death were not passersby in the street. He went to Asian massage parlors, likely in an Asian area in the city. Then it matters little that 6 of the 7 women were Asian. He clearly targeted non-Whites.
Hate crime: likely. Not a crime of love, that’s for sure. I know that Asians more-and-more are under violent attack on the streets of America ever since Trump started blaming the pandemic he bungled on China and made in general racism great again. And it’s good that more and more people speak out against this variant of racism. But, the US is also preoccupied with race. Where else in the world do doctors write in every patient report the ‘race’ of their clients for no medical reason at all? This obsession with race might have overshadowed another hate crime.
Let us look for a moment if these women had another oppressed identity in common. They did. They were women. Most likely, we have here another hate crime against women. Racism kills. Sexism kills.
The self-confessed perpetrator is likely an Incel. A young heterosexual man frustrated and consumed about not ever having had a sexual date and blaming and hating all women for that. Generally, they don’t see women as fellow human beings. They want them for their needs and that they are fellow human beings with their own needs and dignity escapes them. Women to them are means to their needs, almost props in their world.
Here sexism and racism show their compatibility. For the Incel, women are worthless. For racists, Asian lives are worthless. This surely seems like a racist hate crime. Don’t forget that certainly, this was a sexist hate crime.
And now we’re at it, also another problem area gets overlooked. He was a newly religious fanatic. No doubt he was told that sex is bad and should be avoided. This is often told to gays who sometimes believe it and commit suicide. When told to a straight man, he could kill others instead. Sexuality is a healthy and good (and Jews say: holy) part of being human. Blocking it can guide people to draw very destructive decisions about how to cope.
Not to speak of how in the world he got himself a gun.

Like most of his readers, he believes in being friendly, respectful, and loyal. However, if you think those are his absolute top priorities, you might end up disappointed. His first loyalty is to the truth. He agrees that in a post-truth world, that's irrelevant, but then this is for the record. He will try to stay within the limits of democratic and Jewish law, but he won't lie to support opinions or people when don't deserve that. Chronologically, his most influential teachers are his parents, Nico (natan) van Zuiden and Betty (beisye) Nieweg, Wim Kan, Mozart, Harvey Jackins, Marshal Rosenberg, Reb Shlomo Carlebach, and, lehavdil bein chayim lechayim, Rabbi Dr. Natan Lopes Cardozo, Rav Zev Leff, and Rav Meir Lubin. This short list doesn't mean to disrespect others who taught him a lot or a little. One of his rabbis calls him Mr. Innovation [Ish haChidushim]. Yet, his originalities seem to root deeply in traditional Judaism, though they may grow in unexpected directions. In fact, he claims he's modernizing nothing. Rather, mainly basing himself on the basic Hebrew Torah text, he tries to rediscover classical Jewish thought almost lost in thousands of years of stifling Gentile domination and Jewish assimilation.
