Irina Velitskaya is a native of Sinegorskiy, Russia, and is now a US citizen and a student at Berkeley University, where she is majoring in Near Eastern History and Ancient Languages, including Biblical Hebrew, Biblical Aramaic and Ancient Greek. She is also a student of modern spoken Hebrew.
She has previously published a series of articles in Commentary Magazine, including “The Gulag Academia”; “We Are to Exist, Not to Live: What working in a leper colony taught me about disease, anti-Semitism, and myself”; “The Coalition of the Sentimental and the Homicidal”; and “The Diaspora Tragedy of Philip Roth: Reading 'American Pastoral' in the wake of October 7.”
