Aux Armes, Citoyens!

Citizens of Israel (I mean the good non-racist citizens), in 1792 Rouget de Lisle wrote the words to what became France’s famed national anthem, La Marseilles.  “Aux armes, citoyens,” to arms, citizens! Open your ears to hear. Open your eyes to see. Open your hearts to truth.

Our Supreme Court Justices are in the midst of pursuing justice to maintain justice, honor and righteousness in our very troubled country.

They have heard petitions for and against permitting Michael Ben Ari (and hopefully also for Ben Gvir) to run as candidates in the April 9 national elections. They will render their verdict very soon.

Take into consideration that the founder of their hateful party, Kach, the anti-Arab American rabbi Meier Kahane  (may his name be erased from the hearts of decent people), preached the expulsion of all Arabs (good ones with the bad ones) from Israeli soil to be deported to Jordan or any one of the 22 Arab nations willing to accept them. He had no compunction about eliminating them by force and sending the 20% of the Arab-Israeli population to the virgin paradise.

Fortunately, Kahane’s party was ruled illegal and he was forever banned from the Knesset. In the end, he met his death by an Egyptian assassin’s bullet. Few among Israel’s Jewish population mourned for him.

Now, his rabid anti-Arab followers have formed a new political party based upon Kahane’s teachings. Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) is led by Michael Ben Ari who preaches daily “death to 99% of the Arabs” and if elected, God forbid, we would be a witness to wanton bloodshed.

In many Arab countries criminals could have their tongues cut out or they could lose their heads. Sadly in Israel, the death penalty has been used only once (the hanging of the Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann).

Why does our Knesset not enforce its law against racism? If the Supreme Court has the authority to enforce it, we will not have to suffer the cancer of the Kahanist gang of ruthless individuals who have little respect for human life and whose racist ideologies are similar to those of a former European tyrant from 1939-1945.

Citizens of Israel…. Have we not learned from history and from the terrible price we paid?

At the present moment, YEDIOT reports of the verbal abuse by Bennett against Gantz.  Are we on the verge of  a milchemet  achim, a civil war, God forbid?  Neighbor against neighbor?

In a democratic society people have learned to accept the decision of the ballots. In less free countries it is not by the ballots but tragically by the bullets.

We have experienced the assassination of past political leaders and we have not yet fully recovered from the pain and the shame.

I am a supporter of the new Blue-and-White party. I have much faith in Benny Gantz, a man of honor and pride. But I am sustained by the belief that even if the Likud should win the upcoming election, our proud and respected President Reuven Rivlin will use his powers to choose his preferred candidate to lead the country as Prime Minister. And I am taking bets that he will not choose Netanyahu.

But first things first.  First, the Supreme Court must issue its ruling on Utzma Yehudit’s candidates, Ben Ari and Ben Gvir . If there is a God in heaven He will hear our prayers and will respond.

Like filthy garbage that must be thrown out, Otzma Yehudit’s racism must be thrown out upon the heap of stinking refuse.

Only then will our country rejoice in our Judaism and in our democracy. Ken yehi ratzon.  So it must be.
