Benjamin Netanyahu – modern Esther of our times

The supreme leader of Iran – Ali Khamenei mentioned nine reasons why Israel should be annihilated. As we speak he is creating nuclear methods that will bring him one step closer to his goal. Meanwhile in Washington they are negotiating a deal that will crown Iran as a regional power while keeping their nuclear ambitions intact. The Jewish people in Israel are under threat; they must do everything in their power to prevent this calamity from happening. America with the right sanctions has the power to stop these deadly endeavors and they must do so. So what is keeping the American nation in the dark? Why are the Jewish people in America oblivious to the great and immediate danger imposed on their brethren in Israel?

American Jewry understands that Iran must be stopped; the majority of the American people understand that a Nuclear Iran is a catastrophic idea. So what is it that sparked such uproar on Capitol Hill? What turned it into a republican democratic issue? Both sides agree on the fact that it is a bad idea to have Iran gain nuclear power, both agree that President Netanyahu should voice his opinion about Iran, so what is it?

“The timing”; Obama cannot see Netanyahu before elections they say. “Breach of Protocol”  they say.”Disrespect of the commander in chief” they say. “It’s not the right time; let the negotiations develop” they say…

Oddly thousands of years ago we were faced with the same situation. Back then the only way to sound the alarm bells, was through breach of protocol, bad timing and political suicide. To commemorate this breech of protocol the Jewish people have a special holiday – Purim.
This holiday is mentioned in the ” Scroll of Esther” in the Bible.

Let’s remind ourselves what has happened in the story. Around 500 B.C.E , In the Persian empire (Now Iran ), Hamman a top advisor to King Achashverosh convinced him (or paid him off) to annihilate all the Jewish people in his empire. Queen Esther a Jewess with a strong lobby in the court of the king has to go and defuse this time bomb. What is holding her back?

The Scroll of Esther tells us as follows:
“Then Esther spoke..  “All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that any man or woman who goes to the king and enters the inner courtyard without being summoned, his is but one verdict: execution; […] And I have not been summoned to come to the king for thirty days now. .. and Mordechai said to relay to Esther, “Do not think that you will escape [the fate of] all the Jews by being in the king’s palace. For if you will remain silent at this time, relief and salvation will come to the Jews from another source, and you and the house of your father will be lost. And who knows if it is not for just such a time that you reached this royal position. Esther said to relay to Mordechai: “Go and gather all the Jews who are in Shushan and fast for my sake, do not eat and do not drink for three days, night and day […] Then I shall go to the king, though it is unlawful, and if I perish, I perish.”

The time was wrong, it was against protocol, it was a dangerous move, Esther should wait until the king calls her. She hasn’t been summoned to the king for thirty days surely the king would see her sometime soon, what’s the rush?

Mordechai cannot wait there is an immediate and present danger, it will take more diplomacy and two more banquets to unveil the mask of Hamman, but it is a time sensitive matter and we cannot wait for the right moment or the correct protocol, Esther must be heard.

For thousands of years the Jews celebrate Purim the holiday that commemorates the salvation from the plot to annihilate the Jewish people by Hamman. We also commemorate the wisdom and courage of Esther that broke protocol and went to save the Jewish people. We also fast (“The Fast of Esther”) and refrain from eating or drinking on the day before Purim to commemorate this breech of protocol and how the rest of the Jewish people fasted with Esther as she diffused the annihilation time bomb.

On March 3rd 2015 Benjamin Netanyahu is going in the footsteps of Esther, and by “mere coincidence” in the Jewish calendar his speech is scheduled on the eve of the “Fast of Esther”. He is going to expose the modern Hamman and diffuse the time ticking bomb. Yes it’s against protocol, yes the time is wrong it’s before elections in Israel, and the president is offended by the invite, but as a Jew, and as the president of the Jewish people he must walk in her footsteps.
Let’s not kid ourselves the Jewish people will carry on regardless of this speech or another, as we believe in the Almighty that “ relief and salvation will come to the Jews from another source ” but we have already learned from recent history during the Holocaust that “you and the house of your father will be lost ” so if we can use the methods of Esther we don’t wait for divine intervention, we go ahead and show responsibility and “help” God a little.

A request from Democratic leaders, congressmen and of V.P. Joe Biden, this is a truly historic moment please support the speech and be there. Benjamin Netanyahu a Jew – is once again sounding the alarm bells to prevent the annihilation of his people. This speech will go down in the books of Jewish history just like Esther has created an historic and eternal effort that has been commemorated for thousands of years.

And last but not least, American Jewry – wake up! – .  “For if you will remain silent at this time, relief and salvation will come to the Jews from another source, and you and the house of your father will be lost. And who knows if it is not for just such a time that you reached this royal position? – This is your time to shine and support the modern Esther of our times, push your congressmen to support, and convince your democratic fellows to be there.

And a short plea to President Barack Obama, it’s not too late, history judges us on the sides we take, all the great leaders that inspired you Mr. President – like: Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela etc. have achieved their greatest aspirations by braking protocol. So I ask of you to stand on the side of the Jewish people on the Eve of “The fast of Esther” and you will go down in history as the greatest leader that vanquished the greatest threat to the Jewish people in this modern era. – Yes We Can!
