Bibi and Trump

Yesterday, probably the worst President in American history told the citizens of Israel-me-to vote for probably the worst Premier in Israeli history in our elections next week!

I know that there are of course many in both Israel and in the United States of America who will disagree with the first sentence in this blog. That is their , but I believe, as do many others in both countries, that the first sentence is correct.

What is worse is that both men think they have the right to publicly interfere in the elections of each other’s countries! Bibi spent years backing Trump against his Democratic Party opponents, breaking the tradition of Israeli premiers not to publicly interfere in American politics. Until Bibi’s time as Premier, Israel had almost one hundred per cent support from both parties in the American Congress. And yes, I know that the Democratic Party of today is committing demographic suicide but that was not true when Bibi spoke out in the Congress ten years ago against the Nuclear Pact with Iran, which eventually led to Trump’s cancellation of the Pact, which many in Israel considered a gigantic mistake, which has led us to the nuclear situation in Iran today.

Bibi has let Trump control our foreign affairs, especially in the past three years, to the point where Bibi has signed documents of  approval of a two-state solution (look at point 19 of the 20 point agreement signed by Bibi) , which he has always opposed publicly. And yet Trump made Bibi sign that agreement.

What concerns me now is not Trump’s support for Bibi against every other candidate in our elections, but what is the price that Bibi has paid for that support. It is his right to sell himself out, but it is not his right to sell out the future of our country and until we know what was the price of Trump’s support, we will not know what is the price that we the people of Israel will pay!

One of our goals in the next few years should be to return to the relationship that we had with the American government and American People which was based on similar views on what democracy means and a special relationship which was held by previous American leaders towards the Jewish People.

We both have a joint commitment to a democratic world, and to a military alliance based on mutual trust, especially amongst the high-ranking officers on both sides-the kind of relationship which made the joint attack on the Iranian nuclear program possible.

If anyone represents this true friendly relationship today, it is Ambassador Huckabee. A relationship in which it is possible to criticize the activities of one of your most trusted allies without destroying that relationship. This renewed kind of relationship with the American people, should be one of our main goals after 27 October!!
