The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, participated in a prayer luncheon in Rio de Janeiro this Thursday (11/04). Speaking to more than 100 Christian leaders, he said he still wants to move the Brazilian embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

During a meeting of the Council of Evangelical Ministers of Brazil, Bolsonaro stated that “who decides where the capital of Israel should be is its people, its government and its Parliament.”

The president compared the decision to a marriage and did not specify when it would be announced. “We made that commitment and obviously we want to fulfill it, but as in a good marriage, we have to date, get engaged and make sure its the right time for the wedding ”

During his visit to Jerusalem on March 31st, Bolsonaro announced the opening of a Brazilian governamental office in Jerusalem “to promote trade, investment, technology and innovation as a part of its embassy in Israel.

The decision was seen as an alternative to the movement of the embassy to the city. At the same time, members of the Brazilian government hailed it as a “first step” towards the fulfillment of the promise made during his presidential campaign.
