Canada’s empty platitudes and inaction ruin the effort to fight antisemitism.

Antisemitism in Canada, US and in other countries of Western world had reached unprecedented levels not seen and felt before. The empty platitudes and inaction of the Canadian governments of Justin Trudeau and now, Mark Carney, allows the egregious material: the Canadian Museum of Human Rights (CMHR) in Winnipeg has an exhibition titled “Palestine Uprooting: Nakba Past and Present”. The display is impregnated with biased political views instead of historical objectivity and it is and will be poisoning the minds of thousands of visitors of CMHR with hatred of State of Israel and Jews.

The Arab word ‘Nakba’ is translated as catastrophe in English. The Wikipedia’s interpretation of Nakba:” The Nakba ‘the catastrophe’ is the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian Arabs by Israel through their violent displacement and dispossession of land, property, and belongings, along with the destruction of their society and the suppression of their culture, identity, political rights, and national aspirations”. In the current world of postmodernism, postcolonialism and deconstructionism there is not a place for truth based on empirical historical facts, as French philosopher Jacques Derrida theorized that the truth is malleable. You can bend the truth any way you want to fit your political goals. The western academia, European and American leftists accepted the Nakba Palestinian narrative where Zionism is seen as a colonial oppressive movement subjugating the innocent Palestinians. No factual counterargument can change the minds of Palestinians or Democratic Socialists of America. Wikipedia, in the best traditions of wokeness, is propagating questionable leftist views and opinions. Considering the enormous number of users of Wikipedia, its interpretation of Nakba might be implanted in the minds of thousands of people. It is not a surprise to see huge number of Caucasians actively participating in anti-Israeli demonstrations.

The Canadian Museum of Human Rights (CMHR) in Winnipeg, Canada has an exhibition titled “Palestine Uprooting: Nakba Past and Present” which opened on June 27, 2026, and stays active until November 30, 2028. Many are questioning the truthfulness of the exhibition, calling it ‘one-sided’. The display is impregnated with biased political views instead of historical objectivity.

The following facts dispel the myth of Palestinian Nakba.

The meeting in April 1948, between leaders of Arab Haifa Palestinian community, officers of nearly formed Israeli military and British military commander of Haifa, Major General Hugh Stockwell, points to the folly of calling the fleeing of Palestinian Arabs as Nakba, the catastrophe caused by Jews. Major Shabtai Levy, the Israeli officer, was begging the Arab counterparts to tell the Arabs of Haifa not to leave their homes and promised no harm will come to them from Israelis. Yet, the Arab leaders of Haifa stated that they have been ordered to leave by the Arab Higher Committee, chaired by Hajj Ami Husseini, the grand mufti of Jerusalem. The Major General Hugh Stockwell warned Palestinian Arabs: “You have made a foolish decision… Think it over, as you’ll regret it afterward. You must accept the conditions of the Jews. They are fair enough. Don’s permit life to be destroyed senselessly. After all, it was you who began the fighting and the Jews have won.”

Professor Eliezer Tauber, a world expert on the emergence of Arab nationalism and on the early phases of the Arab-Israel conflict, in his book “The Massacre That Never Was: The Myth of Deir Yassin and the Creation of the Palestinian Refugees Problem” proves that in Deir Yassin on April 9, 1948, there was not a massacre of the defenseless Arab men. There was a house-to-house battle between combatants Arab and Jews which resulted in collateral damage to residents of the town. There were few cases of killings of noncombatants residents of Deir Yassin yet, it was not a massacre as it was presented by Arab propaganda machine.

Efraim Karsh, who has held various academic posts at Harvard and Cambridge, believes that history should be viewed separately from political ideology. He dispels Nakba in his book “Palestine Betrayed” by bringing to light the Palestinian’s fallacious narrative depicting the creation of the State of Israel as the main reason of their displacement and dispossession of land. Using the factual material from British, Arab, and Israeli archives, Karsh presents a verifiable account of the ethos prevailing in the Arab Palestinian society in 1948 and 1949. At this period for this group of people the sense of spiritual cohesiveness had disintegrated “with 300,000-340,000 of its members fleeing their homes to other parts of Palestine and to the neighboring Arab states.”

The antagonism toward the Jews of Palestine by the Arab population of Palestine prior to establishment of Jewish state, the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, the defeat of the Arab armies in Israeli War of Independence in the same year and Suez crisis in 1956, all of these events led to Arab states institutional discrimination and open violence against the Jews. The unbearable conditions experienced by the Jewish population of Arab countries pressured them to flee the places where the Jews were living for thousands of years: Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Iraq, Egypt, Syria and Yemen saw the exodus of roughly 850,000 Jews. At the present, there are 15, 000 Jews in Arab countries.

It should be noted that the number of Jews escaping Arab states was significantly more than the number of Arabs leaving Palestine. If we would compare the distances and difficulties that the Jews and Palestinians were facing to reach the destination, there is a considerable difference. The Palestinians, while travelling several miles, were encountering an Arab population of similar culture, ethnicity, and language. The Jews fleeing the Arab persecution to reach Israel had to traverse thousand miles. When in the Jewish state, they were met by people of different culture who were speaking a different language.  Israel had taken 586,000 Jewish penniless refugees who were robbed by the Arabs governments of their possessions. The refugees, while in Israel, did not look back to go to the places of their birth. Instead, they strived to get rid of the status of refugees as soon as it was physically and mentally possible and, at the present, are representing almost half of Israeli’s native population.

On the other hand, the situation with the Arabs who left Palestine is cardinally different. For more than three quarters of the century, they are still refugees in Judea and Samaria, Gaza strip, Lebanon, Syria, and present-day Jordan. The Arab states are intentionally keeping Palestinian Arabs in refugee camps to advance the anti-Israeli narrative of the return of all the refugees to Israel. Several generations of children in refugees’ camps are taught the pathological hatred towards Jews and Israel. They are instilled with the dream of return to the places of their grandfather’s and great grandfather’s birth, the present territory of Israel.
