Charlottesville in Israel

If this is the best Israeli leadership can do – ask Trump to condemn Nazi symbols – not actual Nazis committing terrorism – and Bibi has been SILENT – then Israel is officially becoming just another country, is no refuge for Jews, and has abdicated ALL moral authority.

Israel is supposed to be the place where Jews are free to be Jews. It is not. Is this what you want?

The literal meaning of Charlottesville is ‘a place (a city or town) of freedom for women and men.’ It was overwhelmingly invaded by Nazis.

Do not complain to me about how the media and American Jews don’t care enough or do enough about existential and direct threats to Israel. We care very much. But Israel does not return the sentiment.

Israel’s leadership has made itself an existential threat to all Jews. Israel keeps voting Bibi into power and allowing the Rabbinate and government to hate on women and Reform and Conservative Jews.

Should we have seen this silence coming? Should we have realized Bibi would align himself even with Nazis?

He ran on racism toward Arabs and Israelis came out in droves. Hungary was another clue when he cozied up to Nazi sympathizers in government. Now he is nowhere to be seen or heard in calling out Nazis in Charlottesville and speaking up for Jews everywhere.

Israel, you were created as a consolation over the Holocaust. How you are squandering this in just one generation is mind-boggling. The last country on earth that should be right-wing is modern Israel.

And after this weekend, the reason for this is clear. Your leadership has nudged itself over to the side of giving tacit consent to Nazis attacking Jews.

This is devastating.
