Comfort, Comfort in the Midst of Trying Times
(Reflections on the Haftorah for Va’etchanan)
(Isaiah 40:1-26)
“Comfort, comfort” in the midst of trying times,
Needs deep faith, rooted in lived belief.
It awaits a time of solace envisioned
In exchanging the present for the future.
Assurance of external security
Promises the segue to a state of mind,
Where inner peace views all history,
Culminating in a new era realized.
The visualization of serenity,
Longed for millennia, is the mainstay
Of the pillar for the new foundation,
Awaiting installation of hope’s blueprint.
Its root from generation to generation
Grows through ever-present longing for its arrival.
