CONIB Urges Strategy to Fight Antisemitism in Brasília
The Brazilian Israelite Confederation (CONIB) took part this Thursday in the seminar “Confronting Antisemitism,” organized by the federal government at the Itamaraty headquarters in Brasília.
During the event, CONIB president Claudio Lottenberg highlighted data from the Antisemitism in Brazil 2025 Report. The findings show that since the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, antisemitic incidents in Brazil have risen exponentially and have remained at high levels ever since.
“In 2025, at least 989 antisemitic occurrences were recorded in Brazil. This amounts to nearly three cases per day and represents a level 149.1% higher than in 2022—a clear sign that we are not facing isolated episodes, but rather a structural hostility,” said Lottenberg. “Each time attacks against Israel intensify in Brazil, fueled by fake news and collective blame, antisemitism grows in our country,” he added.
He emphasized the importance of adopting clear criteria to identify the phenomenon, pointing to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism as a global reference.
Throughout the seminar, CONIB stressed the need for a strategy to combat antisemitism based on three pillars: reliable data, education, and institutional response capacity. “Confronting antisemitism requires more than reaction. It requires strategy. And that begins with clarity about what we are facing,” Lottenberg declared.
CONIB’s participation in the event reflects its institutional independence and commitment to its mission of combating antisemitism in Brazil, including its contemporary form of demonizing the State of Israel and its supporters.
“The presence of CONIB in these spaces carries enormous responsibility. It is about ensuring that the Brazilian Jewish community is represented in relevant forums and that these discussions and decisions are informed by data and concrete experience,” Lottenberg stated.
CONIB will now work to ensure that the Brasília seminar leads to practical and effective measures in the fight against antisemitism in Brazil.
