Dear Olim, explore more of Israel
We all love the beaches of Tel Aviv. We enjoy walking through Shuk Ha Carmel and the Levinsky Market, and few things are better than sitting at one of the city’s many cafés with a good cup of coffee, watching the world go by. Tel Aviv is energetic, modern, and full of life.
It is no surprise that so many Olim fall in love with the city. But the fact of the matter is that Israel has so much more to offer.
For those who are new to the country, Israel is a place of great diversity. Within just a few hours, the scenery, climate, culture, and even the pace of life can change completely. Few countries offer such variety in such a small geographical area.
So ask yourself: when was the last time you left Tel Aviv for a weekend?
I understand the temptation to stay put. Your job is in Tel Aviv, your friends are nearby, and the city has most of the things you need. But imagine being able to travel just two or three hours from home and find yourself in a different world.
Head south and discover the breathtaking landscapes of the Negev Desert. Visit Bedouin communities, hike through breathtaking craters, and spend a night beneath some of the clearest star-filled skies you will ever see.
Travel north, and you will find green hills, vineyards, kibbutzim, moshavim, waterfalls, and the peaceful shores of the Sea of Galilee. Explore the Golan Heights, wander through the beautiful scenery, and simply slow down and enjoy a different rhythm of life.
One of Israel’s greatest strengths is that every region has its own character. Every trip introduces you to new people, different traditions, and another piece of the country’s remarkable story.
Living in Israel is about more than having an address in Tel Aviv. It is about discovering the many layers that make Israel such a unique and fascinating country.
So next weekend, step outside your comfort zone. Rent a car, catch a bus, jump on a train, or join some friends for a road trip. Israel may be small on the map, but it has so much to offer.
