Donald Trump is already correcting the course of history – Part II
The limited Turkish integration force
Although the Turks adopted Islam from the Arabs over 1,000 years ago, the religion’s resistance to reform was a decisive obstacle to their expansion efforts in the Arab world. The Ottoman Empire gradually subjugated these countries militarily and controlled them administratively from around 1500 onwards. But actual integration into Turkish culture failed because of Islam, who’s Holy Scriptures and Holy Sites are deeply rooted in Arab identity. The Koran has transported Arab influence into Turkish culture, but hardly the other way around. Although the Arabs were only able to liberate their countries from 400 years of Turkish rule in World War I with European military aid, the Ottoman Empire that was overthrown in the process was an unconsolidated state until the end.
If, as Trump recently noted with regard to Syria, Erdogan’s ambitions are aimed at restoring the Ottoman Empire in Arab territory, he has every reason to heed the lessons of history mentioned above. No political order can be stabilized in the long term with military means alone. The HTS fighters in Damascus are still a long way from such insights. After their success against Assad, they posted slogans that they had obviously been programmed for since long, but which should actually have been on ice since the recent changes. It was announced that after Damascus, the next step would be to conquer the Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem, Mecca and Medina (Saudi Arabia).6)
Such ambitions must be put on hold because Trump’s reform plans also extend to the cleanup of the media world’s propaganda practices and to the control of the security apparatus made up of the military and secret services. The times when Turkey could count on the unconditional support of these forces are coming to an end.
The authentic future of Turkey lies above all in the peaceful integration of the Central Asian Turkic states – but without the expansive ambitions towards the Chinese Xinjiang that have been evident to critical observers for many years. The media all-inclusive package for Turkey also includes very extensive and persistent media campaigns against China, specifically its policy towards the Uighurs in the province of Xinjiang. The Uighurs are also part of the Turkic-speaking peoples and Xinjiang borders Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, two members of the Organization of Turkic States.
Of the more than 3,600 years of Chinese history, Xinjiang has been under Chinese influence for over 2,000 years. As with any large state, the peripheral areas were and are concerned with a balance between integration and control. This loose but large-scale control was the only option considering the primary security interests of the Chinese state as a whole.
Democratic renewal of liberal civilization
Like its autocratically ambitious challengers, the entire Judeo-Christian cultural area must adapt to the new situation. After the era of insincere hide-and-seek and artificial distortions has – predictably – led to chaos in security policy, the task now is to restore the stabilizing principles of liberal democracy to full effectiveness. The dangerously underdeveloped solidarity within the European cultural area, which could be considered an innate character weakness, is proving to be an artificial propaganda product directed against its own nations.
The lack of solidarity is also a reflection of a failure of intra-European integration. The USA has shown how immigrants from all parts of Europe have become Americans within two or three generations. In contrast, the EU Commission, which has not yet received sufficient democratic legitimacy to date, has not even come close to achieving anything comparable in many decades. On the contrary, the separatist tendencies in Catalonia and the Brexit are signs of disintegration. Worse still, the misunderstood aid in the Ukraine war indicates an irrational tendency towards suicide.
Instead of developing concepts to reduce the considerable language barriers between European nations, the commissioners have resorted to issuing an absurd flood of regulations that hinder the economy and curtail freedoms. The Organization of Turkic States, founded in 2009, can serve as a model for the EU in terms of language integration. On September 11, 2024, the Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission met for a conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, where it was able to present a common Latin alphabet with 34 letters.
The media sector within the EU and the whole free West, is in even more urgent need of reform. Coward self-censorship by many journalists7) and the influence of financial power have weakened the information sector and led it away from the core principle of freedom of the press. This elementary freedom must also be revived as part of the upcoming democratic reform. The disastrous international security situation and social disintegration phenomena within Western societies show the urgency with which a market of ideas – undistorted by opinion oligopolies – must be restored. This is the basis for a truly free evolution of ideas, political concepts and social models.
Above all, the revival of authentic freedom of the press plays a key role in resolving international crises and military conflicts. The war in Ukraine could only have escalated to its current dimensions in the disorienting Western media environment. In ping-pong with Putin, MIC militarists were able to prevent European citizens from learning from two devastating world wars and lead them “softly” towards a third. If one correctly includes the little-known Crimean War against Russia (1853-1856), this would have been the fourth major fratricidal war between the nations of the European-influenced civilization – and would most likely have meant its end in the graveyard of history.
But under Trump’s initiative, the warring parties will soon return to the negotiating table that the Ukrainian government irresponsibly abandoned on May 17, 2022 – unless the Europeans will continue arms deliveries and thus prevent this. For the now less favorable negotiating position and for the hundreds of thousands of soldiers killed, the Ukrainians can thank their misguided American and European friends who violated various basic principles. First and foremost, this was the absolute priority of solidarity within Europe, including Russia. According to this, the Europeans who were not involved in the war in Ukraine had only a role as arbitrators and mediators.
Security in the periphery of continent-sized states
The second violated principle concerns the special security situation in the peripheral areas of very large states – as in the historical example of China mentioned above. This phenomenon became particularly drastic in the Cuban missile crisis of 1962, when the Kennedy administration issued an ultimatum to the Soviet Union to stop and reverse the installation of nuclear missiles on the Caribbean island. The USA’s security interests were thus given priority over Cuba’s claim to sovereignty, to decide on measures on its own territory. Russia can also claim the same security priority with regard to Ukraine. This is all the more true as its separation from the Soviet Union in 1991 took place by friendly agreement. But since 2014, the Russian-Ukrainian ties, which had existed for over 1,000 years, were not just loosened as planned, but turned into anti-Russian politics. This was a destabilizing breach of trust that raised the question of the above-mentioned security priority. If the Russians had exerted strong pressure for integration over the course of their long shared history, the Ukrainian language would either have died out long ago or the Ukrainians tried to escape this pressure by seceding and becoming an independent state. However, this would have made them even more exposed to attacks by the horsemen who sporadically advanced from the south and east.
Cultural annihilation as increased slander
“Since 2014, the ultra-nationalist governments in Ukraine have destroyed this proven cultural balance by subjecting the large Russian-speaking group to strong pressure to conform and increased it to the absurd. “By 2016, Ukraine had renamed 51,493 streets and 987 cities and villages …”8)
In 2017, the Education Law was passed, and in 2019 the Language Law. These restrict the use of the Russian language in more and more areas of public life, including product labeling and film sound in cinemas. In 2023, a law followed that bans Russian from all geographical names. The reason given is that these names would “symbolize a conquering state.”8)
Revealingly, this cultural barbarism has an ideological counterpart among various jihadists in the Middle East. This applies to the excesses of destruction by IS, but also to the curriculum in Palestinian UNRWA schools. The latter shows that the aim is not just a distortion of history, but a cultural genocide by wiping out all memories of the millennia-old Jewish history in Palestine. In a well-founded analysis of such schoolbooks, it is stated: >The schoolbooks in UNRWA use are devoid of any recognition of the Jews’ historical ties to the land. “…[The occupier] has built for himself an artificial entity that derives its identity and the legitimacy of its existence from fairy tales, legends and fantasies and tried in various methods and ways to create living material evidence for these legends, or archaeological [and] architectural proofs that would attest to their correctness and authenticity, but in vain.”(Arabic Language – the Academic Track, Grade 10, Part 2 (2020) p. 68)< 9)
Media propaganda and “charitable” organizations have ensured that the UN’s absurd accusation of genocide against Israel finds worldwide support. This slanderous accusation of guilt, combined with the erasure of the memory of Judaism’s historical roots in Palestine, creates an extremely destructive breeding ground – the breeding ground for a “justified” final genocide. In its Article 7, the Hamas Charter of 1988 quotes the Koran: “The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews. When the Jew will hide behind stones and trees, the stones and trees will say, “O Muslims, O Abdulla (= servant of Allah), there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.”10)
