Don’t conflate the tip of the iceberg with the iceberg

Certainly, the Holocaust is the worst of Antisemitism. But it’s not the whole picture. Jew-hatred would not be a problem anymore if it only consisted of the Nazi mass-murder. Unfortunately, the Oldest Hatred is ongoing. And it mainly shows in Jews not feeling safe in the street. And antisemites can’t excuse themselves by saying: That I make them feel bad is not the Holocaust, so it’s nothing.

Correspondingly, murder is the worst of sexism and racism. But you can’t say: As long as no one gets murdered, all is fine. And when people get murdered because of hatred for women or of non-Caucasians, that is the only problem that needs to be taken care of. Rather, women and non-Whites feeling degraded all around the clock is the main problem.

Murder of a female by her spouse, ex, brother, or father is the worst of sexism. Trying only to prevent such homicides is not the way. First of all, we need to uproot the causes, not just the outcomes. And secondly, what causes femicide makes women unsafe and unfree all day long, often even in their homes and with close relatives. The problem includes the wicked assumptions that women are here just to obey, serve, and please men, that they should not have their own opinions and freedom to choose, etc.

On top of this: not all men would murder women. There must be policy to prevent women to get close to violent men or to rescue them from such violent relationships. Education at school already how to spot a power-hungry flattering charming fake. To outnumber bullies. That men and women are equal besides that a proud man comes to protect, not attack, the socially vulnerable. Relationship counselors must know that when there’s violence at home, save the victim before trying to help the liaison.

Where needed, it must be taught that murder damages the name of a family more than any other behavior. That you ‘can’t protect the name of the family’ by killing those you find improper.

So, as important as it is to save the lives of all oppressed who are in acute mortal danger, the most important thing is to free all of society and all people from any notion that some people are second-class, unequal, and unworthy. And to eradicate any idea that it would be (partly) acceptable that whole sections of a population live in fear and unfreedom, and that others get to dominate, bully, and subjugate others.

Not only the tip of the iceberg’s a problem. We must melt the whole thing.

Yet, his originalities seem to root deeply in traditional Judaism, though they may grow in unexpected directions. In fact, he claims he's modernizing nothing. Rather, mainly basing himself on the basic Hebrew Torah text, he tries to rediscover classical Jewish thought almost lost in thousands of years of stifling Gentile domination and Jewish assimilation. (He pleads for a close reading of the Torah instead of going by rough assumptions of what it would probably mean and before fleeing to Commentaries.) This, in all aspects of life, but prominently in the areas of Free Will, Activism, Homosexuality for men, and Redemption. * He hopes that his words will inspire and inform, and disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.
