Each person is born free to a family

Each Person Is Born Free To a Family

Double Torah Portion

 Behar: Leviticus Chapter 25 – 26:2

 Behukkotai : Leviticus Chapter 26:3 – 27:34

Even the land deserves a rest, as said:

The seventh year, the land is too lay fallow,

Not to be cultivated; leased from God

On condition, it be respected with care.

No property bought is ever owned, outright.

It reverts to its ancestral owner,

If redeemed, less the price per year of use.

Time frames give leeway to parties’ comfort

“And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year,

And proclaim liberty throughout the land

Unto all the inhabitants thereof:

It shall be a jubilee year for you.” ( Leviticus 25:10)

No person shall serve another for life.

Each person is born free to a family.

Thus, life, land and all God’s creation

Must be treated with dignity, in reverence to God.

To Live and Uphold the Moral Order

Rewards are given to thousands of generations,

Whereas four generations suffer for pasts

Of inconsideration of consequence.

To live up to the Covenant of Ethics,

Is to uphold the moral order.

For life, thus, to thrive within and without.
