I admit that Black Lives Matter but …
Interrupt the speaker right there.
There is no but. If there is a but after, “I admit that Black Lives Matter” these six words are just an introductory excuse to floor what will be said after the but. The but … then destroys completely what came before it.
Or the but could give away that you don’t understand the first thing about what you said before the but. I support BLM but also White lives matter. It’s like saying I am against antisemitism but also against hatred for non-Jews. You just admitted that you don’t get the concept of Jew-hatred at all.
I am for Freedom of Speech and the right to demonstrate but …
There is no but. You either are part of the solution or part of the problem.
I love Trans people but …
After the but, JK Rowling continued to trash the whole concept of gender versus sex (see above clip) — not the first time. That does not come from her love. If you deny transgenders, if you don’t respect what they say about themselves, you don’t respect them and you surely don’t love them.
Her virtual son, Harry Potter actor Radcliffe was so sweet to speak up for trans people: Stop adding to the hurt. Good for him. His virtual mother has been at the forefront of fighting for many oppressed groups, like: women, working-class, Jews, GLBs, and Blacks. For some reason though, she lacks the awareness to understand that she needs to shut up on Trans and listen and listen and listen until she gets it.
That, generally, is a major problem for most Allies: to learn to shut up and learn. But a good heart typically wins out and in the end, will create the humility to be there for people different from us — but o so similar. I don’t doubt she’ll come around, no less than many straight cis-gender parents who, at first, may reject their GLBTQA children, only to embrace them afterward.
