Flash of Copper: A Poem

Where are you
You were here today and then
You flew away
In a flash of copper
An orange smear
You are no longer here.

My face
Furrowed with fear
Where are they taking us?
Spare us, please
Where is Yarden?
We have only this blanket and my arms Encircling you.

Oded
Means encourage
Soft eyes with creases at the corners
And a soft dream
For humanity.
Your warm smile and
Your grandfatherly brown hat.

Ariel first approaching
His brother Kfir
Apple cheeks
And smiling eyes
He clutches his pink elephant
Giggles echoing beyond
Briefly lived lives.

How can I honour you

For all that you are

The best of our dreams

For our nation.
