From the River of Blood to the Sea of Blood

"Clouded judgment." Photo by Shoshana Lavan taken in the Galilee.
I write this for those of you outside Israel and Palestine.
All this blood is becoming your responsibility.
For those of you abroad with your strong opinions about this part of the world, convinced you are right, who will not listen to any other narrative…
I have a few questions for you.
Have you tried imagining you were kept hostage in a tunnel, starved, raped, beaten, for a year?
Or a starving Gazan walking from home to home, putting up tent after tent in an attempt to live, when you’ve already lost many of your family members?
Or a man from Kibbutz Be’iri whose partner and children and grandchildren were burned alive in their houses?
Or an innocent citizen in Lebanon, lying by the sea, your home destroyed, in the hope you might be safe there from the rockets?
Or even a peace loving Israeli with your peace loving family, woken at all hours to run from your beds to the nearest shelter to escape the rockets? (Yes, that’s us.)
Do you ever actually consider the inexhaustible sides you could take and the horrors here we are all witnessing, hearing about, experiencing? Here, where we live. Where you don’t.
Who are YOU to tell us anything?
Open yourselves up to this reality of hell and know this: war is NEVER the answer.
Stop judging. Stop taking sides. Stop shouting loudly to drown out our cries for help.
Shut your mouths to the language of hate; instead, open your hearts to the concept of humanity.
Help us to end this horrendous conflict between two beautiful nations, once and for all.
