‘Europeans killed 6 million Jews out of 12 million, but today the Jews still rule the world by proxy… 1.3 billion Muslims cannot be defeated by a few million Jews. For well over half a century we have fought over Palestine… If we paused to think, then we could devise a plan, a strategy that can win us final victory’.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, speaking to the 57-nation Organisation of Islamic Cooperation conference in 2003.

Anti-Israelists in the West, including Jews, are often young and impressionable people duped into advocating for the ‘human rights’ of genocidal Islamist regimes.

These same regimes corrupt, from infancy, the minds of their youth, who are no doubt encouraged by what they see in the West’s social media, and the mainstream Western journalism to which social media often points as sources of authority.

The West – uninformed or misinformed by the mainstream media – generally fails to realise that the ‘Palestine’ they want to ‘free’ in the name of ‘human rights’ is ideologically opposed to human rights. The goal of Hamas (elected by Palestinians in 2006) and Palestinian Islamic Jihad is genocide of the Jews of Israel.

Just as the Christian mainstream of Germany once expected the ‘Reich’ to become manifest when Germany had killed every last Jew, today Islamists expect to eradicate Israel and murder its every last Jew (as written in the Hamas Charter) as the metaphysical precursor to purifying Earth of everything that does not belong to Islam.

Perhaps most of the pan-Arab flag wavers in the West think they are demonstrating virtuous concern for persecuted Muslims. But the Palestinian regimes, including Palestinian Authority/Fatah, represented by these flags are persecuting Muslims, including children, brainwashing them into becoming Jihadists, described here last week in The Algemeiner by my friend and fellow Christian Dexter van Zile (with whom I’m presently working on an academic paper on Christian antisemitism, including in the World Council of Churches).

Children indoctrinated when Hamas came to power are now young men and women with a Nazified understanding of the world. Until last week, many were expecting to follow the Hamas artillery barrage and come up into Israel through the ‘metro’, the many miles of attack tunnels, explained here by Colonel Richard Kemp.

The global banner of anti-Israelism is the out-of-context pan-Arab revolutionary flag

‘White are our acts, black our battles, green our fields, and red our swords’.

Safi al-Din al-Hilli, explaining in the 14th century the four colours first combined on the Flag of Arab Revolt in 1916:

Here in the UK today, we are more likely to see the four-coloured flag of Arab revolt than the red-white-and-blue of the Union Jack.

Labour Party Conference in Liverpool in 2018. The scene was repeated in Brighton in 2019.

In Northern Ireland (and Ireland) and Scotland the Palestinian flag appears on gable-end montages, and in pubs, and it flies from town halls, detailed by Tuvia Tenenbom in his book Taming of the Jew. We see the Palestinian flag displayed by celebrity Muslim footballers on England’s football fields; we see it at political party conferences, and it is ubiquitous in London, or ‘Londonistan’ as defined by Melanie Phillips in 2005 in her book of that title.

I think it is the West’s failure to exorcise the antisemitism of WWII that, today, causes the West to resist any ‘news’ that fails to make the Jewish nation appear worse than all 57 Islamic-bloc nations combined.

The inexorable ‘stan’-ification of the UK is easily affected by Islamists working through our nation’s soft moral underbelly: antisemitism/anti-Israelism. Had Britain not been as innately antisemitic as Tuvia Tenenbom discovered in his undercover research, we could not conceivably have ever favoured the flag of pan-Arab revolt over the Union Jack. It results from hatred of Israel rather than love of Arab Muslims. Indeed, the West all but ignores the Islamic and Islamic-Socialist atrocities just over the borders from Israel, where in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan there is extreme and generalised abuses of human rights, and many times more deaths. In the decade-long conflict in Syria for instance, latest estimates of deaths are half a million. Over 5 million people in Syria have been displaced, mostly now classed as refugees. The death toll inflicted by Arab Muslims on Arab Muslims in Syria includes up to 120,000 civilians, 22,000 children, and over 4,000 Palestinians since the civil war began in 2011.

The massive-scale abuse of Palestinians in Syria is all but ignored, including by the Palestinian leadership. Arab abuse of Palestinians in Lebanon, held in ghettos for four generations, is ignored.

Arab abuse of Palestinians in Jordan is ignored. Millions of people in Jordan are Palestinians (by self-identification and/or classification by Jordan). Since Jordan renounced its claims to sovereignty of the ‘west bank’, it has continued to arbitrarily remove citizenship from ‘Palestinians’, apparently to avoid a shift in tribal demographics that would threaten the authority of the Hashemite kingdom. Jordan classifies many of its Palestinians (born in Jordan) as perpetual stateless ‘refugees’, insisting they live in the ‘camps’, where their children are brainwashed with genocidal anti-Israelism with material supplied by the UN and the EU.

The failure to report the plight of Arabs at the hands of Arabs, preferring to blame all suffering in the region on Israel, is lethal journalism. And it’s a vicious circle: the more that people hate Israel – a mere quarter of 1% of the landmass of the Middle East – the more they want to buy, read and watch material that justifies the hatred.

The Western media practically ignores the ‘near genocide’ perpetrated by Muslims in the Middle East and North Africa on Druze, Bahá’í, Yazidis, the ‘wrong’ kind of Muslims (such as the Sufis) and especially Christians.

‘Near genocide’ of Christians are the words of UK former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt in 2019, who commanded the Church of England to report on Christian persecution. Here are details of the report on Gatestone Institute, and here is my article in The Algemeiner explaining that the Church of England (my own faith community) is itself culpable of fuelling the genocidal anti-Israelist narrative.

The mainstream media fail to report, with sufficient emphasis, the ongoing Islamist genocide of Christians and others throughout the Middle East, Far East and the African continent. This neglect to report on what truly matters is a consequence of anti-Israelism.

I maintain that anti-Israelism is an even greater evil than antisemitism, and the greatest moral and global crisis of our times. I explain why at the end of this piece.

Anti-Israelism differs from antisemitism in several ways, including the fact that many of the world’s most influential anti-Israelists are secular Jews, including journalists. I do not believe that the authors of Western media intend to promote the genocide of Israel, but they enable and embolden those who do, and attract ‘charitable’ donations to their cause (catalogued by NGO Monitor).

In the Middle East and throughout the global Islamic bloc, genocidal anti-Israelism is explicit in the media, such as in Qatar, Iran, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia… (translated and catalogued by MEMRI).

See my joint essay with Dr Richard Landes – Genocidal Anti-Israelism, The Ticking Time Bomb – for comparisons of the genocidal media the Islamic bloc disseminates to itself, and the media that it disseminates to gullible liberal audiences of the West in the old colonial languages of English and French.

Since the advent of newspapers, lethal journalism and genocidal antisemitism have been two sides of the same coin

Genocidal antisemitism – the view that every last Jew be killed – is a 20th century ideology. The influence of the press on the ideology cannot be overstated, and is doubtless largely because the new philosophies of antisemitism coincided with the advent of the press (‘newspapers’) and international news agencies in the mid to late 19th century.

The newspaper industry coincided with French and British imperialism, and therefore the universalising of the French and British languages enabling the instant sharing of news around the world. Europe could now easily export Christian antisemitism, with all the medieval libels and tropes, not least the Blood Libel: the claim that Jews murder Christians to consume their blood. In the ‘Damascus Affair’ of 1840, following the disappearance of an Italian Christian monk, Christians, supported by the French consul in Damascus, accused Jews of Blood Libel, and tortured them to extract guilty confessions. Sensational international journalism followed, particularly from France.

To this day, the Damascus Blood Libel is accepted in Arab lands as ritual murder. An influential book titled Matzah of Zion (1983) by Syrian Minister of Defence Mustafa Tlass draws on the episode to explain why no Arab nation should ever accept peace with Israel.

At the beginning of the 20th century, pogroms in Christian/Czarist Russia, coincided with the publication of Protocols of the Elders of Zion. At the same time, severe antisemtism was taking hold in France, reeling from the bankrupting Panama Canal Scandal, in which Jews were amongst the implicated. Even before the Protocols arrived in France – and were accepted as the authoritative minutes of meeting of Jewish elders plotting to take over the world – the antisemitic tract La France Juive (1886) by Édouard Drumont was hugely influential.

Of course, the Russian Church perished under Communism. And in France, the Church lost credibility due to the antisemitism in the Church, which had sided with the antisemitic press in the Dreyfus Affair. Indeed, the Church in France was terminally damaged because it had become so demonically anti-Dreyfus that, following the final vindication of Captain Dreyfus, it was banished forever from French institutions, including politics, law, and public schools. France became formally secular, or Laïque.

The Catholic Church in France, we might say, was ‘on the wrong side of history’ – with all the other  ‘anti-Dreyfusards’ – including much of the press, but not all of the press. There was a battle royale for instance between the two popular cycling newspapers, the Dreyfusard Le Vélo (printed on green paper) and the anti-Dreyfusard L’Auto (printed on yellow paper). The Tour de France, with its yellow jersey, was created by the antisemitic owners of L’Auto with the primary purpose of crushing the Dreyfusard voice of Le Vélo.

On the right side of history was the newspaper L’Aurore, which in 1898 published on its front page Emile Zola’s open letter to the President: J’Accuse…!  Zola’s letter was published eight years before Captain Dreyfus was freed, his guilty verdict annulled. A conspiracy was then unveiled implicating Church, Army, Government, press, and the legal system, all of which had long come to realise that France had scapegoated and condemned an innocent Jewish officer, but spent a whole decade actively attempting to cover up the truth, persecuting Dreyfusards including Zola (who fled to England to escape imprisonment), hoping to protect professional reputations and the international reputation of imperial France.

In 1920 Protocols was exposed as a fraud by The Times of London, before which the Western media, including The Times, often quoted Protocols on authority.

Protocols turn out to be plagiarised from an obscure political tract published in Geneva in the 1860s, thirty years before the meeting of the Elders was supposed to have taken place. However, the USA and Germany remained largely convinced that Protocols was genuine, largely thanks to the car magnate Henry Ford in the USA, and his loyal friend Adolph Hitler. Ford funded the publication and distribution of Protocols, and set up his own antisemitic newspaper, The Ford International Weekly, publishing series such as, in 1920, The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem.

In Mein Kampf, Hilter speaks of the ‘great man’ Henry Ford, and insists that Protocols is genuine. It was taught in German schools from 1933 to children who would, of course, be fighting age by time war broke out, convinced that by eliminating ‘the world’s foremost problem’, Germany would free the world and bring it into the Third Holy Empire (or thousand-year Reich).

Hitler galvanised the Catholic Church and diverse Protestant churches (under the ecumenical umbrella ‘Protestant Reich Church’). The German/Austrian press was by this time not in any sense ‘free’. Government, Church, the paramilitary Storm Troops (and eventually the Army), and the press were in lockstep behind the Nazi flag, designed by Hitler, who described it in a Party circular on 17 September 1921: ‘the red is social, the white is national, and the swastika is antisemitic’.

During and after WWII, Christian, Socialist and Fascist genocidal antisemitism mutated to Islamic, Islamist and Islamist-Socialist genocidal anti-Israelism. We see evidence of this in Syria, governed by Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party, whose main opposition is Syrian Social Nationalist Party, founded as a pan-Arab Nazi Party in the 1930s by Christians, Muslims and Communists. Its first party anthem was sung to Deutschland über alles; it used the Nazi salute, and it has kept a rendition of the swastika on the party flag to this day.

During WWII, much of the Arab world was convinced by Nazism, and, expecting Rommel to be victorious in North Africa, was preparing to take the Holocaust to the Holy Land.

Mein Kampf and Protocols of the Elders of Zion had been translated into Arabic and became widely distributed in the 1930s (as they still are today). I have written on my blog about the use of powerful shortwave-radio transmissions from Berlin, where Hitler hosted the so-called Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Mohammed Amin al-Husseini to broadcast Nazism to the whole of the Arab world. (Melanie Phillips has very recently written a piece on these Nazi roots to Arab anti-Israelism.)

After the War, Muslim Brotherhood leader Sayyid Qutb wrote his own ‘Mein Kampf’:  Our Struggle Against the Jews (1950), later used to create the Hamas Covenant. And Qutb wrote Milestones (1964): the philosophy and roadmap for Islamic State. Although Qutbism is ostensibly Sunni, it inspired the Islamic revolution in Iran, where the ayatollahs paid homage to Qutb and translated his books into Persian.

Anti-Israelist lethal journalism

Fast forward to the 21st century.

In the history of lethal journalism, no year is more important than 2000, implicating, once again, the French press and the French nation (and state-owned TV) and the French legal system: the Al-Dura affair.

The significance of the Al-Dura affair is central to my joint essay with Dr Richard Landes. Richard has been a key witness in the French courts in an ongoing campaign to try to bring France 2 (and by extension the French Republic) to justice for this lethal and devastating 21st-century Blood Libel.

In 2000, the Al-Dura video footage, broadcast in every nation, was the emotional trigger for the so-called Second Intifada: the avowed goal of which was to free the Holy Land of Jews.

In 2001, Osama Bin Laden used the Al-Dura footage to recruit Muslims from all nations for global Jihad. A new strategy was necessary: suicide bombing, not only against Israel, but every nation that supports Israel. Here is a passage I wrote in the essay with Richard Landes:

Osama Bin Laden in his open letter to America stated that the primary reason for 9/11 was ‘America’s support for Israel’. The secondary reason is to call the whole world into the ‘true religion’, and ‘to make Shariah the supreme law’. There is no instance of the word ‘Christian’ in Bin Laden’s letter explaining the need for 9/11. There are 11 instances of ‘the Jews’, some of which are textbook Hitler and Henry Ford, such as:

‘Your [US] law is the law of the rich and wealthy people, who hold sway in their political parties, and fund their election campaigns with their gifts. Behind them stand the Jews, who control your policies, media and economy’.
Osama Bin Laden’s ‘Letter to the American People’, November 2002

The British suicide bombers of 7/7/2005 quoted Bin Laden in their videotape statements, warning such attacks will continue until Britain ceases to ‘support America and Israel’.

7/7 was the most lethal attack on Britain since World War II. Although British intelligence has managed to prevent many further planned Islamist attacks, some inevitably occur, the worst being the Manchester Arena suicide bombing in 2017, killing and maiming many at an Ariana Grande pop concert, popular with teens and children.

The Al-Dura hoax is but one of thousands of examples of lethal Western journalism that invites terror not just on Israel, but on the West. The BBC’s obsessive vilification of Israel (and the BBC’s using taxpayers’ money to, at the same time, protect its reputation in the courts) is more or less the same material broadcast by its Qatari-state counterpart, Al Jazeera English.

And Al Jazeera’s true intent can be heard in its Arabic broadcasts, translated by Arabic-language media-watch organisations such as MEMRI and Palestinian Media Watch. Al Jazeera gives weekly perch to the intellectual head of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who promotes suicide terrorism and the genocide of Israel’s Jews to all Arab-speaking nations in the name of Islam:

“O Allah, take this oppressive, tyrannical band of people. O Allah, take this oppressive, Jewish Zionist band of people. O Allah, do not spare a single one of them. O Allah, count their numbers, and kill them, down to the very last one.”

Yusuf al-Qaradawi, Al-Jazeera TV, 2009 (Translation by MEMRI)

Qaradawi is the most influential Islamic theologian of our times. His Oxford [University] Centre for Islamic Studies was even granted a royal charter by Prince Charles in 2012. Qaradawi legitimises the use of Muslim children as human bombs to target Israel.

It is the West’s ‘political correctness’, innate antisemitism, and wishful thinking that prevents our seeing that the Islamic mainstream is now more or less where the mainstream was in Christian Russia and Europe a few generations ago.

May 2021

The West’s journalistic reporting in the past fortnight has been a depressing repeat of the lethal journalism of the Second Intifada. As an example, I was listening to BBC Radio 3 (classical music channel), and the ‘news’ headlines came on, about the continuing conflict. The broadcast said: ‘The Gaza health ministry [Hamas in other words] reported the deaths of 43 Palestinians, including 13 children. 1 Israeli was killed’. And that was it.

This BBC narrative is lethal. It excites many of its listeners to become anti-Israelists, and perhaps to send money to spurious NGOs and charities supporting Palestinian ‘health’, most of which will go to the extremely wealthy leaders of Hamas and Fatah, to spend on terror or Pay for Slay.

A Jewish friend Dr David Stone, a medical doctor (Professor of Professor of Paediatric Epidemiology) speaks here of highly-respected medical journals, including The Lancet, are profoundly anti-Israelist, eager to amplify the Hamas narrative.

The truth is that Hamas has been firing thousands of rockets indiscriminately at Israel, with the intention of killing as many Jews as possible. About one in seven of these rockets has fallen short, and landed on the people of Gaza. The rockets/missiles launch sites are hidden in civilian buildings, compelling Israel to bomb them, taking every measure it possibly can to avoid civilian deaths. I cannot improve on explanations of lethal journalist of the past weeks by Melanie Phillips (her piece here links to several other pieces on lethal journalism), and Colonel Richard Kemp, here, and here.

Israel is the ensign of God. As I see it, anti-Israelism – whether it is secular or ostensibly religious – has a deep metaphysical dimension: it is mankind’s rebelling against God of Israel, Lord of History. It is man’s alternative plans to God’s plans for the destiny of the nations. It is therefore the ultimate idolatry. Whether its roots are scientific or Socialism, or Christian or Islamic ‘replacement theology’, it is man’s futile scheming against God.

This rebelliousness is in fact implied in the word antisemitism, because sem, or Shem, means ‘the Name’, HaShem: God: housed in Israel and protected by the Jews to be a blessing for all nations.

Of course, the rebelling of all nations against God’s anointed nation of God’s anointed people is prophetic. In Psalm 2 for example, the King of Israel himself warned that all nations would conspire against Israel, and of the futility and vanity of doing so.
