Good morning, Iran

Yes, that’s your word for the day. Actually two: BOKER TOV – good morning.

Thanks to Iran, we Israelis had a collective wakeup call at 7:15 this morning. After some areas of the country had sirens and ran to shelters multiple times during the night, Iran made sure we all got up in time for morning prayers.

How would you react to having to rouse your kids out of bed, to make sure the family pet joins and make sure all go safely to the MAMAD (yep, see my previous post for that one – ‘safe room’). Ours is in our home, which makes everyone a little less grumpy, as they pile in and stay half-asleep / half-checking phones for messages and details. Others across Israel are not so lucky, and have 1.5 minutes or less to rush to a nearby neighborhood shelter, where pajamas are the mode now among strangers.

Light-heartedness aside, we worry. We quickly scroll while sirens blare, read of missiles getting through our defensive air systems and hitting apartment buildings in central Israel, as well as another site, horrific to imagine but not yet allowed by IDF spokesman rules to talk about. God help us all.

Prayer. Coffee. Whatever helps. This is Israel. Boker tov.
