Heart of Darkness

The scalpel cut an eight inch line across the patient’s chest, the surgeon wondered:

“Why am I trying to save the life of this wicked man?”

“What will I find in his heart of darkness?”

“Will I unearth a heart with traces or glimpses of the devil?”

“Will I discover a hopelessly dark and deceitful heart in this evil man?”

“Will I find seven abominations in this politician’s ticker?”

“Knowing what I know, should I being doing this?”

He knew his scalpel would have to penetrate deeper and deeper into this vessel of darkness to search for any signs of a goodness.

He knew from reading the Bible that no matter how deeply he cut, he would only find fabrications for “truth will never shine from a heart filled with corruption and lies.”

Minutes before he scrubbed down, gloved up and commenced cutting that line, the heart surgeon reread the patient’s medical history.

In bold font it read;

It should be noted that patient’s heart is small, cold, calculating and black;

  1. With the coldness to order the separation of mothers from their babies and then imprisoning children in cages:
  2. With the smallness of being unable to donate money to charities and the blackness of being capable of stealing from them;
  3.  This depraved heart only loves itself;
  4. This malicious heart doesn’t give a bowel movement about his country, its military or its citizens;

5. This loveless, narcissistic heart has tendencies leading to the hardening of the arteries and the soul;

7.  An obsessive-compulsive, vengeful heart obsessed with females and compulsive on finding ways to hurt them;

8.  This heart is filled with chaos, sinfulness, and criminality;

9.  A sociopathic heart where truth will never find a home.

As the surgeon deepened and lengthened the incision and he thought, “Why am I doing this? Only a miracle can heal this heart.”
