High Anxiety in Israel’s High Court
Take two at the Cannabis Hearings. Last installation gave the screen to the Marx Brothers . The ever-innovating StartUp Nation has now moved on to Mel Brooks.
In an extremely curt decision, Justice Melzer essentially clarifies that his previous deicsion to require Suppliers to provide directly to clients until the end of Mrach applies to all the suppliers.
Nu? Seems the Health Ministry was incapable of reading the previous decision so now, two full months later, Sheriff Melzer, who appointed himself to oversee the circus, has drawn his six-gun and shot an innocent bystander. And reaped great praise from everyone – present company NOT included.
Actually, the Consumer Association had requested that the Ministry be held in contempt of court for not abiding by the previous decision. Sheriff Melzer passed on that. No surprise. The Ministry just had an innocent misunderstanding. And who might be responsible for passing down a decision that left such an opening? That’s the “R” word, it is for other genres, it is too heavy for High Anxiety. There the birds just come and shit on you, just like that.
The providers will undoubtedly find it impossible to reorganize in the 10 days that the Sheriff so dramatically pronounced. Great! Another decision based on drama and not on reality. Remember the scene where the psychiatrist puts in werewolf teeth so he can treat his patient for werewolf phobia?
And who might be “R” for this impossible situation? Sheriff Melzer had the oportunity to stop the Reform in its tracks in June. He punted to July and failed to notice that the Minsitry was running the clock down. Then, crucially, he punted from July to September that the Minstry turned into October. In October, rather than seeing the obvious fact that the Ministry was exploiting every moment to destroy medical cannabis, he displyed his six-gun but didn’t shoot. This abysmal performance makes the erstwhile Sheriff more a part of the problem than part of the solution.
The Sheriff has now given the providers, who have been abused by the Ministry’s shenanigans for half a year, ten days to shape up. They need at least six months, to grow a new crop according to a new market and try to plan for the future. So “they” will fail, and the sheriff will misfire again at the bystanders. Then he will shoot the clock and fuss about how the time frame he personally created is not being honored.
Next scene – Woody Allen??
There is only one positive lesson to be learned from this farce. The State of Israel has proven incapable of “R” in medical cannabis. The 60,000 patients – and another several hundred thousand who are denied medical cannabis by the over-regulated IMCA – need legalization. Then those with medical needs can apply for free cannabis – like in normal countries like Germany.
The negative lesson centers upon Magister Landschaft who engineered this debacle and directly harmed tens of thousands of disabled Israelis including epileptic and autistic children. He has gotten off scot free; the Sheriff has never even pointed his pistol at this obvious target. Wanton destructive abuse of power by government hacks has been granted tacit approval by Israel’s highest court.
