Hillel 818 Honors David & Angella Nazarian
Making the world a better place is the Nazarian Family second nature
Hillel 818 sees itself as the foundation for Jewish life on campus. Founded in 1960, it is part of a global network of Hillels’ on over 500 campuses worldwide. Located in the San Fernando Valley, it serves students who attend California State University, Northridge (CSUN), Pierce College & Los Angeles Valley College. It sees itself to be the home away from home for Jewish students where students can be active in social justice, commitment to Israel and connecting to Jewish studies, programs and activities, such as Shabbat dinner at Hillel’s House.
Many Jewish students are attending CSUN and Hillel acts as their Jewish campus connection. It welcomes the Jewish campus community, serves individual students’ Jewish needs and works with Jewish students to create opportunities for involvement.
Hillel at CSUN was independently established, making it one of the oldest students’ group on CSUN campus.
On March 26, 2014, California State University, Northridge’s College of Business and Economics proudly announced that Mr. David Nazarian, class of 1982, has pledged to help lead a $25 million fundraising drive and he launched that effort with his own $10 million cash gift to the college. In recognition of his gift and pledge of continued support, CSUN has named its college of business the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics.
The gift will boost the reputation of CSUN and the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics. It will enable the university to be a leader in delivering world-class business education to students throughout Southern California, bring about a positive impact on every program, resulting in national and international recognition, which the current and future generations of CSUN students will be able to cherish.
David Nazarian is an industry-leading businessman and philanthropist whose integrity and vision are second to none. He leads Nimes Capital, the private investment arm of the Nazarian Enterprises. The Nazarian family, with deep Jewish culture and ethos, is known for their entrepreneurial efforts, helping the Jewish community at large, among many activities, to keep its Jewish heritage, and contributing to the State of Israel’s ongoing development, which in Judaism is called Tikun Olam-repairing and improving our world.
David Nazarian and his wife Angella believe that when Hillel is strong his activities on campuses can help fight anti-Semitism. They also believe in teaching the Jewish youth heritage and tradition and for that reason they have established the David and Angella Nazarian Youth Leadership Program for 9th-12th grade students, at Sinai Temple in Los Angeles.
Recognizing the Nazarians’ tremendous contribution to the Los Angeles and Jewish community, this week Hillel 818 Board Members, Rabbi David Wolpe, Congressman Brad Sherman, Kenneth Lord, the Dean of the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, dignitaries and guests gathered at Hillel 818 House and honored David and Angella Nazarian for their leadership in giving back to the community, for their real, not white bread, Jewish and Israel advocacy.
We wish the Nazarian family to go from strength to strength.
