Hitler’s Pals And Their Progeny

Back in 1975, when Saturday Night Live was a fresh new comedy show, it had a running gag about the Spanish fascist dictator, Francisco Franco, who had just died after an extended coma. On its weekly “newscast,” a somber Chevy Chase would intone. “This just in: Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.” Or, the following week, “On his way home from the negotiations, Henry Kissinger will visit Francisco Franco, who is still seriously dead.” And so on, just about every week, for months. It always got a big laugh.

Well, it turns out SNL was wrong. The fascist general, or at least his Jew-hating soul, is very much alive in Spain, and his name is Pedro Sanchez.  The Nazis, of course, supported Franco in the Spanish Civil War, and used it as a training ground for the Luftwaffe and various military strategies it was to employ in World War II.  Franco’s Spain became a strong ally of Germany.

Prime Minister Sanchez has made no secret of the fact that, every inch a spiritual descendant of Franco, he detests Israel, even going so far as to wish that he had nuclear weapons and aircraft carriers so he could help solve the Jewish problem.  Also a provocateur, like his German spiritual predecessor, who precipitated Krystallnacht, Sanchez praised the violent attack by anti-Israel thugs that necessitated the cancellation of Spain’s treasured bicycle race.  They were protesting the participation of Israelis, and the Prime Minister approved; no Jews allowed.  He also canceled a number of purchases of Israeli weapons systems (Spain allocates the lowest percentage of its GDP to military readiness of any NATO member), and cut off trade with Israel.

Spain has a long history of anti-semitism and is, of course, justified in its antagonism towards Israel as it still harbors painful memories of the March 11, 2004 Madrid train bombings that killed 193 people and injured thousands.  The Spanish government first blamed Basque separatists (you know, the ethnic minority in Spain that seeks, and is denied, its own state–if only Sanchez could appreciate irony), but eventually had to admit that the coordinated attacks were the responsibility of Islamist terrorists. Showing customary courage, Spain surrendered to the terror and withdrew its forces from Iraq.  Eventually, of course, like all the October 8 apologists, Sanchez and the Spanish were able to substitute the Jews for the actual perpetrators of terror as the targets of their vilification.  No Jews; no Islamist terror; no problem.

Just as Franco sided with Hitler in his battle against the Jews, his spiritual progeny continues in that path.

In 1933, Vidkun Quisling, a Norwegian patriot and staunch anti-Communist, inspired by the movement that was beginning to sweep Germany, founded a fascist, anti-Communist political party.  He was defeated in his parliamentary election bid.  He turned to Nazi Germany, meeting with Hitler in 1939 and obtaining both support and funds. In return, Hitler requested Quisling to invite the Nazis to occupy Norway.  Quisling welcomed the German invasion of Norway in April 1940, declaring a new government and himself prime minister.

If you look up “quisling” in reference books, you will find that it has acquired a secondary meaning–it is a synonym for treason and collaboration.  When Norway was liberated, Quisling was tried for treason and executed.

Many Norwegians opposed the German takeover and there was an active resistance, including some heroic attempts to save the Jewish population, which Quisling had decreed should be transported to Auschwitz.  But to little avail.  All Jews were required to wear a “J” on their clothing.  Starting October 1942 there were mass arrests.  All Jewish property was confiscated; Norwegian policemen helped the Germans effect these evil decrees.  In November 1942 and February 1943 there were mass deportations to Poland.  Only 25 of the 795 deported survived.

Now they are going after the descendants of the survivors.

For the spirit of Quisling lives in Norway.  Its sovereign wealth fund, the Government Pension Fund Global, managed by Norges Bank Investment Management, under massive pressure from anti-Zionist activists, has determined that it must divest from Israeli securities and even the securities of some American companies that do business with Israel.  The fund, the largest such fund in the world, with over two trillion dollars in assets, maintains that its decision is driven by ethics, not politics.  And yet, it treats no other country, not even China, in this manner.  Just Israel.  Just the Jews.

Once again, the Jewish people is under an existential attack, both on the sovereignty of its only state and its ability to survive hateful, anti-semitic assaults.  Once again, Norway has cast its lot with the Nazis and anti-semites, thus committing a historic miscalculation and injustice.

There is apparently no truth to the rumor that the fund is being renamed “The Quisling Fund.”  But name change or not, it should be subject to sanctions and opprobrium.  Shame!

Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, opposed both Zionism and British rule in Palestine.  He saw a natural ally in Hitler and cultivated the relationship, offering support in exchange for a promise to oppose further Jewish immigration to Palestine. On November 28, 1941, he met with Hitler in Berlin.  The Germans, of course, kept meticulous records, so we know exactly what happened.

Al-Husseini expressed admiration for Hitler and his ideology, pointing out that Arabs and Nazis shared common enemies: England, Communists, and, of course, the Jews. He offered to form an Arab Legion to fight alongside the Axis armies.  And he asked for Hitler’s pledge to eliminate the Jewish national home in Palestine.

Plus ca change, plus la meme chose.

Hitler declined the joint military proposal but avowed his intention to exterminate world Jewry, promising that as soon as he was done with Russia, he would turn to the Middle East and support the Arabs in their efforts to eradicate the Jews. Husseini, who was already on the run from the English, spent the war in Berlin, where he agitated against the Jews in Arabic-language broadcasts.  After the war, he fled Egypt, opposed partition and the creation of a Jewish State, and eventually wound up in Lebanon, where he died of natural causes in 1974.

The spirit of al-Husseini lives on in . . . [Author’s Note:  I was going to identify all the present Arab and Iranian leaders, EU politicians, UN shills, reprehensible NGOs, “as-a-Jew” anti-Zionists, etc. as the modern-day progeny of al-Husseini, but the editors at TOI get upset when these essays get very, very, very long; the list is endless and you will have no trouble supplying your own candidates; they are legion.]

[Author’s Note II:  I was also going to do Vichy France, Petain, French collaboration with Nazis in the transport of Jews, and Macron, but I have been accused of beating dead horses, and Macron is the deadest and densest of horses, so I will leave this also to your own creative processes.]

It is sobering to think that the guilt and shame of Europe over its treatment of the Jews in the 20th century barely survived two decades into the next century.  That endless black pit of Jew-hatred that has been at the heart of European “culture” since medieval times is not a flaw, but a feature.

Look in the mirror, Europe. See the dark brown hair, blue eyes, and signature toothbrush mustache staging back at you.  Then raise your right arm in salute to your continuing depravity.  And wallow in your shame.
