Aryeh Lazar

How can you have a strong body, full of muscles, yet still be a nervous wreck?

If you are an ish gibbor (strong person), you do not let worries dominate your heart.

You accept everything HaShem does with joy and love.

Your positive and joyous attitude allows you to rise above your illness
and helps your body heal.

Should you become sick, you will still stay strong.

But a person who is depressed and weak loses his strength when
faced with illness (G-d forbid).

Rabbeinu Yonah (1180-1263) says:

A person with a good ruach (spirit) tolerates physical illness.

“A happy heart is the best medicine.” (Proverbs 17:22).

But when you are dominated by worries, nothing helps.

Rabbi Yisroel Brog observes:

It is interesting that the ruach which is a spiritual entity
comforts the physical body.

But the physical body cannot help the ruach with its problems.

What are the ruach’s problems?

Worries.

Even when you are in good physical shape, toned and full of muscles,
it will not help you overcome your worries.

Rabbi Brog knows someone who always
exercises in the gym.

He is a gibbor full of muscles.

But he is still depressed.

Rabbi Brog asks him:

“Why are you depressed?”

He is depressed because his healthy body still
does not free him of worries.

If he develops his Bitachon (trust in HaShem), he will become
a true gibbor with a healthy ruach.

He would no longer live with so many worries.

A healthy ruach does not worry!

When your ruach is healthy, your body is healthy.

Do you have a healthy spirit that frees you from worries?
or
Do your worries dominate your spirit and keep you from enjoying life?

Our recent series is based on shiurim (lectures) by Rabbi Yisroel Brog.
