How can you use your words to build up someone’s self-esteem?

Continued from Tuesday’s blog

Your words can revive someone’s Bitachon,
self-confidence and self-image.

Yoni says:

“Sometimes, this kind of building up of your self-esteem
can only be done by someone who went through what
I went through.”

Yoni tells his old friend Rabbi Ha-Levy:

“I am not someone who understands psychology.
I am also not someone who always
understands other people.

But G-d gave me one weapon.
I use it and it works like a charm.

I show people:

(1) How much value they truly possess, and
(2) They can make the same realization I did.

What is this realization?

The reason you feel the way you do is
just because of words.

Your feelings are simply a manifestation of
difficult words that have been thrown at you.

Sometimes, the way you feel about yourself is
because of hurtful words that have been directed at you.
You hear those words so often that you begin to accept
them as truth.

But they are not necessarily true.
You do not have to continue carrying them
or
allow them to define you!”

So now ask yourself:

Why do I have to live with these words?
Why do I have to internalize these words?

Leave them alone.
They are just words.

Now, you can take these words and
use them in a positive way.

You can even go out and help someone.
Empower yourself by giving someone a compliment.
Don’t be stingy.

You have a machine that gives so much!

Go give positive support and
praise to someone else.
Make them feel good about themselves.

You will then even feel good about yourself!”

This week’s posts are based on a lecture by
Rabbi Dovid Genish.

Question:

How have other people’s words affected your own self-esteem?
