How the Bible Supports Your Support of Israel
While people and leaders throughout the world are repeatedly throwing Israel under the bus, and while anti-antisemitism is growing around the globe, I firmly believe that the United States should always stand with Israel.
I realize that some readers may not share my views or Christian religion; however, I feel a strong obligation to share why it is critical that America stands with Israel and the Jewish people.
Everywhere a person looks, they will see country after country abandoning Israel and choosing to side with enemies of Israel.
It is alarming that so many European countries have in recent years, cranked up resentment for Israel and then have decided to recognize a Palestinian state. This includes the country of Ireland where a boycott of Israel has been passed into law. However it was pleasing to hear about the counter-rally that erupted in the streets of New York City in response to an anti-Israel protest on July 25th, 2014. New Yorkers displayed their remarkable support for Israel which left the anti-Israel protesters stunned.
The following video underlines the strategic importance of Israel:
The reasoning behind why Christians view Israel as “The apple of God’s eye” lies in the teachings of the Old Testament. As it is written, the Israelites are the Lord’s firstborn. The people with whom He established His covenant. When the prophet Moses returned to Egypt to lead the Jewish people out their 430-year exile in Egypt, he was instructed by the Lord to tell the Pharoah that he must release God’s firstborn:
“Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord: Israel is my firstborn son.” – Exodus 4:22 (NIV).
The Bible speaks in Genesis 12 of God’s covenant He made with Abram when He gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people:
“The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV).
Genesis goes on to teach of how God gave the Jewish people the land of Israel and how this became the established Holy Land:
“Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.” – Genesis 12:6-7 (NIV).
Furthermore, many critics and enemies of Israel today claim that Israel does not have historical ties to the land that the country of Israel occupies in modern times. This could not be farther from the truth. Archaeological findings have proven that a Jewish presence has existed in Israel for thousands of years.
I now turn my attention to the words of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his exhortation to the United States to continue standing with Israel.
Indeed, I fully trust Prime Minister Netanyahu when he says: “But I can guarantee you this, the days when the Jewish people remained passive in the face of genocidal enemies, those days are over.” Likewise, I take Netanyahu at his word when he further states: “This is why — this is why, as a prime minister of Israel, I can promise you one more thing: Even if Israel has to stand alone, Israel will stand.”
Netanyahu did not end with that statement though, he firmly stated that the United States stands with Israel and reminded us of why we have always stood with Israel. After all, we were the first country to formally recognize Israel as a sovereign country just 11 minutes after they formally declared their sovereignty. President Harry S. Truman made the announcement. The Prime Minister summed up our reason for standing with Israel in this way:
“But I know that Israel does not stand alone. I know that America stands with Israel. I know that you stand with Israel. You stand with Israel, because you know that the story of Israel is not only the story of the Jewish people but of the human spirit that refuses again and again to succumb to history’s horrors.”
Ladies and gents, it is in absolute honesty that I tell you that senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz has a proven record of standing with the nation of Israel. Every time America stands with Israel, we are united in standing up for democracy throughout the world.
